Haven’t stopped craving and thinking about this place since we tried it. This is some of the best sushi I’ve had, and I’ve been to Japan twice. For the price especially, the fish quality is surprisingly good - the fish glistens from the fat, it tastes fresh, not fishy while still being flavourful, and devoid of that “recently frozen and thawed” texture/taste that many sushi spots unfortunately has. The the $20 15pc sashimi platter had both Otoro and Chutoro, honestly a steal. Not to mention the sushi rice is actually done very well here - soft but not mushy and well seasoned. I love that they do a super thin layer of rice on the special rolls, so you taste more of the filling.

Both the waitress and chef were checking on our meal and were happy to engage and provide suggestions. I’m not usually a wasabi person, but I could NOT stop picking and eating the wasabi here because of how smooth and sweet it tasted. I learned that chef uses a more premium horseradish wasabi for some dishes, and REAL wasabi that he hand-grates for other dishes, and gave us both to try and compare. Both were leagues better than your average takeout horseradish wasabi, and a large part of what made our meal so delicious and memorable!

Overall, 10/10 meal. I can’t wait to come back with friends and try their Chef’s Specials menu items! This place is truly a hidden gem, we didn’t wait at all to be seated and there weren’t too many patrons.

Recommendations: Any sashimi platter (10/10; fish varies daily depending on what’s available) Karaage (8.5/10; always a solid choice, this place does it more Korean fried chicken style to amp up the crispiness, unlike the usual thin cornstarch coating on standard karaage) Negitoro sashimj (8/10; came on top of crispy rice crackers, beautiful plating) Torched 8 piece nigiri set (10/10; each had a flavour that paired well with the fish, the yuzu one was divine) Pearl roll (9/10; torched scallop was absolutely incredible - sweet and melty) Ultimate signature (9.5/10; tasted like more than the sum of its parts, you really can’t go wrong with softshell crab + eel +...

Sengyo Sushi delivers the kind of Japanese comfort-meets-craftsmanship that keeps you thinking about the next visit before you’ve even finished the meal. Everything was beautifully fresh, generously portioned, and plated with the kind of care that makes the experience feel elevated without being fussy.

The Matsu Sashimi Platter was a standout: thick, buttery cuts of sashimi served at the perfect temperature, showcasing natural sweetness and quality. The Taster 8 Torched Sushi was rich, melty and aromatic, sealing in flavour with that satisfying torched finish that sushi lovers chase.

For something warm and cozy, the Cha Xu Ramen brought deep, savoury broth comfort with great balance; hearty without being heavy. The Assorted Tempura Mix arrived crisp and golden, light enough that you can enjoy every piece without feeling weighed down. And the Spicy Salmon Roll tied everything together with bold flavour, clean spice, and freshness in every bite.

Sengyo is one of those spots that quietly overdelivers: high quality without the pretension, and the kind of consistent execution that turns a good meal into a restaurant you bookmark for regular rotation. If you love authentic flavour done right, this is a must-visit in North York. ✨

Everything about this place has exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere to cutlery and tableware is just stunning. The food too, it's the best sushi I've had and I'm not a big fan of seafood. It's the only place I'd get it from, I don't like the fishy taste from most places, but this place gets their fish so fresh that I never have a fishy aftertaste. I discovered this restaurant because of their $1 sushi promo a while back and I've gotten takeout from them ever since. I highly recommend anyone living nearby to try it and it's worth the drive even if don't live nearby! The best thing on the menu is definitely the Shrimp Tempura, it's so crispy and the meat is so tender and melts...
