Horrible visit! Stopped for a late dinner 8:30PM on a Tuesday night. My first instinct should’ve been to walk when the washrooms were a disgusting mess! Toilet tissue on the floor and toilets full of I flushed feces! Says more about the female clientele to be honest but nonetheless . We weren’t expecting going to be the third of three tables during our visit.
My Husband ordered a soup with lemon snd Tabasco sauce. I had a Diet Pepsi, he; a soda water -this becomes important later on. We both ordered 1/4 chicken dark, one with fries and the other; salad. We were told it is .69 for hot sauce, the menu had changed and they didn’t have Tabasco. My Husband passed on the hot sauce. My Husband enjoyed his soup. Our entrees arrived and both our chicken 1/4’s were cold. My Husband was offered another piece, I was not. Regardless, as chicken should be hot held to avoid bacterial growth and ours originally arrived cold, best chance would’ve been something heated in the microwave (one would assume) or else, we would’ve received hot chicken. We passed on another assumingely cold 1/4 and my Husband asked for a salad in place of the chicken he wasn’t going to eat. I enjoyed my hot fries but that was about it.
Our server (Jin) circled back and I had mentioned that the Diet Pepsi didn’t taste right, like it didn’t have the correct mixture of syrup, he brought me another, I drank neither. He asked if we were enjoying our food as if we hadn’t already mentioned the cold chicken.
It was then, that he asked if we wanted to speak to a Manager. We didn’t know one was here, we both said. Certainly, we would.
Penny made her way to our table and asked if she could help us. Umm, yes, as a matter of fact, had our server not mentioned our visit to you snd the issue of the cold chicken to you? Well, yes she said, He mentioned you didn’t like your chicken but he offered you more chicken, so… Puzzled by her response and almost combative comment, my Husband mentioned that we had just been to the local funeral home in sympathy and stopped in for a quick bite on the way home, he was hungry and just needed to eat. He’s a diabetic. We weren’t expecting to have the worst experience we’ve had in a restaurant, she said that “Jin didn’t charge you for the salad you ate” Excuse me?!?! Seeing how you charged us for full chicken entrees we didn’t eat, I certainly hope not I said in my head. I asked her to leave our table and asked for the bill. We were told we needed to order two individual drinks to get two 1/4 chicken meals for $19.99. I didn’t drink either of the two diet Pepsi’s they brought to the table but the Manager, Penny said they were fine. Welp, that’s me told, it’s the only soda I drink, what do I know? But. I was charged for it anyway. Our bill came, $37 for a soup and salad and some fries. I paid the bill and we left.
My take away on this visit. Product knowledge as acknowledged by Penny, needed to be reviewed with the server. Violation of the City of Toronto’s health and food safety guidelines are questionable and need to be reviewed along with hot hold temperature logs in the back of house also need to be reviewed.
Customer satisfaction is better addressed at restaurant level while customer is still present and not sent away angry.
The steady decline of customer service in general is abhorrent but its complete dismissal is reason to not return.
Keep driving if you’re ever in the area and hungry. There’s plenty of restaurants to choose from that would appreciate the...
Read moreGiving 1 star only because it is the minimum otherwise would be 0. Placed an order online for delivery at 9:27 p.m. on 5/23/20 for myself and my family from 2131 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough At 10:30 I called customer support to find out where my order was as the store was already closed and it had been over 1hr. Customer support mentioned our order was out for delivery and that it would be complimentary because of the long wait and we would be refunded our money. At 10:55 I called back again as our order was still not delivered and was told "like I said your order will be delivered soon and is complimentary but if it does not arrive to call back the next day. Waited until 11:15 and still no food so decided to throw a frozen pizza in the oven. At 11:30 the food finally arrived. Spoke to the driver and apparently he had left the store at 10:20 which is 6 minutes away but yet took him 1hr to get here. I opened the food and to no surprise it was cold, stale and clearly had been sitting for a long time, the driver must have taken the scenic route i guess. We Threw the food in the garbage and ate our pizza. At 11 a.m. on 5/24/20 I called the store manager at this location as instructed from customer service to get my refund and find out what happend. The store manager was extremely ignorant, rude and unapologetic. He Mentioned he had no driver right now and would investigate what happend and call me back "later today". During this conversation the manager asked us what we did with the food and when I told him we threw it out because it was stale, cold and clearly had been sitting out he laughed and said I cannot do anything because you threw it out and was asking us for the food back. To be clear this guy wanted us to keep the nasty food overnight and return it to him at the store with all these covid 19 restrictions and precautions in place for what reason? I Again mentioned I had thrown it out. He refused to refund us because he quote on quote wasn't able too and said he had to investigate further. At 3:10 after several hours of waiting i called the store again and when asking for him and waiting I was given the run around and told i can take a msg hes very busy and said to call back. He is completely avoiding the whole situation which is not surprising so I mentioned he either call me back or I will come to the store myself. Finally at 3:30 I was called back and told to come to the store to get my refund. This whole experience was not great and my "complimentary food" was never given as it went straight to the garbage. We have been going to this location for over 10 years and it is the last time we ever order or return location. They Lost a loyal customer. To top it all off there was no reason given as to why the driver took 1hr to drop off food 6 minutes away after leaving the store. Avoid this location for delivery at all costs and visit the dine in at your own risk after what I experienced and was asked who knows what they do with food that is rejected in...
Read moreMy wife and I are fans of Swiss Chalet, but live in a city where there are no nearby locations. Once in a while we come to GTA to visit relatives, and while here we get our Swiss Chalet fix.
The food tasted good as usual, but this location's menu deviates from the rest of the chain. Who doesn't offer a double leg dinner?? Well, this location doesn't. Even though they're perfectly capable of doing so since a double leg is simply two dark meat quarter chickens in one meal.
I called in the order for delivery and was forced to go with three 2-can-dine deals in order to get the same amount of meat as 3 single 'double leg' dinners. I would have cancelled and called another location, but they claimed they were the only restaurant that delivered in our area. I'll find out later if that's true. Along with the chicken dinners, I also ordered three sets of wing dinners. They're supposed to include coleslaw according to the Swiss Chalet website. More on that later.
Later, the restaurant called me back to complain that we ordered too much dark meat and wanted me to switch to white meat for some of the meals. We all wanted dark meat and were unwilling to change. He started to argue, but backed down when I suggested cancelling the order and I would order from elsewhere. After all, I'm asking for delivery out of convenience; I'm fully capable of driving and picking up if I have to. He then rudely said "fine" and hung up.
By the way, this order was not in the midst of the dinner rush, but in mid-afternoon.
When we got the order, we discovered that the coleslaw was missing from the wing dinners. We decided we had had enough trouble and didn't want to bother calling the restaurant and complain.
If you like your double leg dinners, this is not the Swiss Chalet location to go to. They obviously don't know how to keep up with demand to hold enough supply. Plus they're rude. Go to a different Swiss...
