The service was fine and they seem to have a lot of options. They are probably also one of the few Vietnamese options in the area.
The short version: I asked my dining companion how it was as we “didn’t seem too hungry” and they said ya it’s was average. I said, I think maybe it’s the worst pho I’ve had in a while. And they said omg yes, I didn’t want to say, but please let’s never go back.
Why? Details: Pho broth has a distinct feeling that it’s either not real bone broth or has been supplemented with powered broth and has more than average salt to disguise. Rare beef: they are using shoulder round. You don’t need to use the most expensive cut, but this cut (lean shoulder) is absolutely inedible for this. Even with only light cooking in broth, it turns into a hard leathery, tasteless grey lump. Beef balls were very mediocre. Tripe was tripe, it was fine. noodles are a more traditional style, firmer than what you might be used to in Canada. But I’ll put this as a matter of preference as I’ve had similar noodles in Vietnam at very authentic places. once put together this was not a good bowl of pho
Bahn Mi: - all the ingredients are there, but nothing is quite right. Construction also had some questionable choices. When you put it all together it’s not tasty. Bread is almost good, but it lacks the fragrance and “bite” of a Vietnamese French bread Pate was not sufficient. And I’m pretty sure the other side wasn’t buttered Pickled carrots were made in a rush. I pulled it out to try directly and they were just ever so slightly pickled Not sure who supplied their Vietnamese cold cuts, but they were not tender and had no hint of more subtle jelly texture and aroma. It was very garlicky, once again as a mask to authenticity. I’ve almost never had a bahn mi I didn’t like even if it had just one or two good ingredients. Usually if you put all the pieces together, the good ones will offset any one items problems. But not this time. It was depressing.
I’ll admit the place was quite busy and though I sound like I’m being way too picky and expecting too much; I really can enjoy simple foods and am not actually that picky. This restaurant is taking short cuts to mask the absence of the basic fundamentals of good Vietnamese cuisine in...
Read moreI wish I could rate with 0 star. (1) Tried the food right after I got it. The taste is goosey and bit of stomach-turning, might be due to not serving it after the dishes are done for 30-40 minutes (after I increased my voice volume a little, my food was handed to me in seconds)
(2) Also, I don't deserve a 4th piece chicken for a $15.95 Pad Thai? Please do not tell me 4 is a number with bad luck for only including 3 pieces meat.
Well, say bye-bye to your 20% tips. So glad I always could tip after the service.
Completed understand all rules they made. It is not their rules made me sad. It was because of asking me standing next to the front desk and telling me they are gonna to check with kitchen, yet they did not check at all and kept letting me wait. When customers walked in and might use the table next to front desk, what they did was not to ask kitchen which they said over 10 minutes ago, on the contrary, they were so eager to kick me out and serve customers who arrived later than me by ignoring time and order manners.
Visited here on August 5 as the Google rates looks nice, yet the rates seems not that "real" now. Rude staffs and they made the rule of 1-hour limited dining time, while letting me waiting for 40 minutes for our food. Seeing people ordered after me left and half of the dinner finished their meals, I headed to the front desk checking, they asked me to wait right next to front desk, and then told me I cannot wait next to front desk, as there might be customers need the particular table. That's funny and ridiculous after they have ignored me for 40 minutes while I waited at the corner, and they then thought I brought too much attention waiting next to the front desk.
They could find excuses anyway for their own good no matter how wrongful they are, and to against wherever you wait and...
Read moreOk first time here, one of my co-workers recommended this place. Checked reviews and was impressed so I've been wanting to try this place for a little while now. Those who read my reviews will know that I strive for accuracy and authenticity in my reviews. This one has a few ups and downs. So first thing first, i went woth the rare beef pho. Ive been craving pho since last night so i was pumped to have skme finally. Broth was really good! Not overly salty but very beef flavourful! Busy place, everyone seed to be enjoying their food. So here's where it gets a bit tricky. So while eating, meaning that at first it was not obvious, I found a piece of plastic embedded in my noodles! I had already eaten a few bites and even stirred everything up but didn't notice the plastic until maybe about a quarter way through the meal. So after I told them I was about to leave but they insisted on making me a new bowl and would comp the meal. Usually I don't accept any kind of make ups because I want to remain unbiased in my reviews but this time I accepted as I was stsrving and had to go back to work soon. Second jowl qas ok, broth was still outstanding but the portion seemed smaller than the first, understandable since it was going to be comp anyways. Overall good on the restaurant for giving me a new bowl and for comping it. Bad on them for ha ING the plastic in the first place. Tbh, I'm writing this review after getting back to the office and my stomach isn't feeling the best right now. Not sure if it's related to the pho I just had...in any event not sure if I can recommend this place because of the plastic but you can be your own judge here. Doesn't decent customer service outweigh bad Q amd A? Only you can decide that for yourself. I'm really on the fence if I would...
