If I could rate my experience at Tropical Nights 0 stars I would, but unfortunately Google doesn't allow me to. I had been to this place once before with family many years ago and enjoyed the food. However I went back with my friend about a week ago to eat, and had the most unprofessional experience i have ever had dining out.
At first we were greeted promptly with menus and told about nightly specials. She then came back not too long after and asked if we were ready to order, and if we wanted anything to drink. I got a corona and ordered vegetarian nachos, as i feel beer and nachos are a great mix. My friend ordered goat curry and white rice. The waitress told me that my VEGETARIAN nachos would take a long time, and asked me if i still wanted them. I could not wrap my head around how VEGETARIAN nachos could take such a long time. I agreed that I was willing to wait a long time for them. After about 20-25 mins later my friends food comes out, and was brought to us by another girl other than our waitress. She did not say anything about my nachos. So another 10-15 maybe even 20 mins goes by and my friend is almost done her food. Our waitress comes to tell me that she asked the cook staff where my VEGETARIAN nachos were, and she said that they did not provide her with an answer....... Really????? "They did not provide me with an answer". She then apologized, and asked me if she can bring me another menu, and I could order something else. I politely declined, and asked her to bring me another Corona instead. When it came time to pay for the bill she did not ask if we wanted it split, she brought one bill.
HOW could VEGETARIAN nachos take soooo long to make? Meanwhile the whole time we were waiting for them, meat dishes were coming out of the kitchen non stop..... My guess is they forgot about my order, and the waitress couldn't think of a good enough lie, other than "My cook staff didn't give me an answer".....
I will not be returning here ever again. There are plenty of Caribbean restaurants around the city that actually want your business and treat you better than I was treated here.
My advice to management of this dive bar, TRAIN YOUR DAMN STAFF PROPERLY..... YOU LOST AT LEAST $50 FROM ME THAT NIGHT, AS IF I GOT MY FOOD I WOULD'VE STAYED LONGER AND ORDERED...
Read moreI honestly dont know where to begin to write this review. I took my family to tropical nights on Monday August 18th around 730pm for dinner. It was my mom's birthday. The restaurant was empty. The patio had a few men drinking. We were greeted by a lovely waitress, she sat us down at a nice spot to the front of the restaurant. There was no vibe in the place, seems like a haunted house. The windows were so dirty, the window sills had crumbs, the tables were so dusty, the menu were so old and dusty. The waitress brought us plates, utensils and condiments. We started off by ordering Mauby( we were told they were out) we asked for sorrel they were also out and was told they were out of all of the caribbean juices and pop. We settled for sprite and coke. I then started ordering pepper shrimp, jerk chicken fried rice (we were told they didnt have jerk chicken) we asked for black pudding, they also didnt have. At this point, I was embarrassed infront and I felt the awkwardness from my family. I felt so terrible for the waitress, she kept on apologizing. My husband asked me if I wanted to go to Island mix instead...it took everything out of me to say yes because I felt so bad for the waitress and I felt terrible to walk out of a restaurant. Initially we were going to go to Island Mix in the first, but I thought no let's go to tropical as their vibes is always bussing. This place has gone to the dogs, I feel its only a place now for people who wants to drink a few beers or rum. We went to Island mix and they were packed, the place had nice vibes and a DJ. Their bar was busy. Such a great experience at Island Mix, even their bathroom was spotless.
Since I am writing this review, I'd like to add one more thing. When tropical nights had their "all you can eat" breakfast buffet, husband and I went a few times.. then one day we went and the waitress told us they no longer have the buffet and we should go to drupatis or Island mix.
I dont think i will return to tropical nights if they continue with this madness. Clean your place, wash your windows.. you guys need a revamp.
To the waitress, I am sorry for making you feel awkward when I told you we were...
Read moreI ordered a rice dish last night over the phone for pick up. The lady said she was busy and put the phone down. I could hear her taking orders and talking to people.
I waited 15 minutes, she still did not pick the phone back up. I hung up and called again. I got the same lady and I asked her what happened, she apologized. Anyways I made my rice dish order. The lady said it should be ready in 15 minutes.
I made the order at 10:50 pm- I arrived to pick up order at 11:09 pm. The lady told me there was only 1 cook and it would take longer. There were several people who were there that said they have been waiting 40 minutes or longer. To make a long story shorter my food was not ready until 12:10 a.m. the next day LoL I am not kidding. That's a whopping hour and a half wait for just a rice dish.
Thankfully the music coming from the speakers was good and I had to entertain myself by dancing around a bit LoL. Looking at all the beautiful women on the patio provided great scenery also LoL.
The lady at the counter apologized several times. I still gave her a decent tip. By that time the crowd waiting for there orders had grown and were getting very hostile with her.
Now for the food it was top notch. Chicken, lamb, shrimp on rice with jerk chicken on top. Super good, lots of nice veggies in there to. Big servings, I will have enough left for my lunch today.
You may wonder why I gave it 5 stars. the 5 stars is for the food. I have to give it 1 star for service though. Waiting an hour and a half for food is crazy. Thank god it was just for me and my kids were not starving at home. I will still give tropical nights another chance, it close by and the food...
