XO Gelato — Restaurant in Toronto

The gelato is good. My kids like it, and I’ve had decent experiences in the past. But two recent visits left me disappointed, and honestly a bit frustrated.

First, I ordered the Stracciatella, which is supposed to be vanilla with chocolate chips. My scoop had one chip in the entire thing. For $5, that was a letdown. My daughter’s Mint Stracciatella had 12 or more chips both times, so clearly this isn’t consistent.

But the bigger issue, and the reason I’m writing this, happened tonight. I took my daughter and her friend for gelato. On the walk home, just minutes after we left XO, her friend accidentally dropped her scoop. Half of it spilled out onto the pavement. She was trying to save what was left and still planning to eat it — I could literally see dirt on her gelato. I was like, eww, no — we’ll go back and get you a new one.

When I explained what happened and asked for another scoop, they charged us full price. No empathy, no gesture, no discount. Just full price again. It felt cold and transactional, especially for a kid who just dropped her treat.

Decent product, but service matters too, and this felt like a missed opportunity to show care. We’ll be going to the other gelato place nearby more often now. When my other daughter dropped her gelato a couple years ago, they replaced it for free with a...

Field Report, July 2025: XO Gelato, 647 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Toronto, Ontario, Canada I wish there were six stars to award this incredible gelato emporium. My spouse and I have been coming here for decades. XO Gelato is simply the gold standard by which all others ANYWHERE should be measured. Owner Greg Marcu is an uncompromising master of this confection, and a delight to meet and converse with. He NEVER sacrifices quality in any of his many wonderful products, and is very proud of his establishment and its long history of quality. His flavours are intense and well-balanced, and are produced using only the very finest of ingredients. They leave you wondering if this is all a dream. The flavours and textures are simply out of this world. You need to make this your GO TO gelateria. We have never found anything, anywhere, here or abroad, to match XO Gelato.
