i do believe in supporting small startup businesses and supporting the community, and i went into this experience with as open of a mind as i could. ultimately, this is not better than mackays and i'm not certain how long it will stay in cochrane. to be fair, the service was good and the clerks were VERY VERY EXTREMELY friendly.
as soon as i walked in, i realized that this establishment is just a sign of a bigger problem in cochrane; the modernization of the downtown area. around 2013, the town started developing the quarry, which featured less old-fashioned features such as false fronts and non-synthetic building materials, and it seems as though that cheap-mass-produced aesthetic has bled into the heart of cochrane. seriously, walking into this place felt like walking into a super rich kid's 13th birthday party. but maybe that's the target audience
however, the biggest flaw i see in this business is that it's undeniably going to be short lived. compared to mackay's, this ice cream slightly more expensive and slightly worse. as cochrane citizen, we know how long menchie's lasted, and they at least had a schtick that set them apart from mackay's (different area of town, soft serve, and buffet-style serving). there really isn't much that sets them apart from what already exists here. you want a cone? go to mackay's. you want ice cream cake? dairy queen is so affordable and SO good.
if abbey's creations wants to survive downtown, they need to switch up the game or they'll go out of business as quickly as...
Read moreWe were headed to McKay's but it was closed so we decided to give Abbey's a try. The customer service left a lot to be desired. The gentleman behind the counter was very unfriendly and said few words to us while we were there. In fact, we felt as if we were an inconvenience to him. The interior of the store is colorful and well decorated. They had a variety of flavours however, we found it hard to choose as we prefer the more traditional options, which they were all sold out of. The waffle cone was pretty with the chocolate and vanilla swirl design, but my daughter said the chocolate left a weird film in her mouth and the cone itself was stale. In the end we were not overly impressed with their items, the customer service needs a lot of improvement and I found them to be a bit pricey compared to the competition. I would not recommend this...
Read moreI’m telling you now, just take the extra time to line up at McKays than going to this store. 👎🏻
Had a very horrible experience today, August 27. We came in around 20 mins before the store closes, and got the worst attitude from the white girl staff member with piercings. She obviously looked pissed that a big group came in, and she treated us coldly while we ordered individually. I get that you try your best to close on time, but her body language made us feel unwelcomed at all when we clearly came by and ordered within store operating hours. We initially wanted McKays but chose Abbeys for more convenience, but with this experience in mind I’ll rather wait in line and and pay extra to get McKays than waste my time here. 🤧👎🏻
Such a shame because the ice cream is good, but she ruined the experience for us. COMPLETELY...
