Several terrible experiences at this location. GO ANYWHERE ELSE
-First off, the food has made me sick on more than one occasion. I would not recommend anyone ever eat there. Both the pizza and the steak sandwich have given me food poisoning. The cooks are dressed in dirty shirts, and stand with the kitchen doors open so they can watch whatever is on TV. If you get a glimpse inside the kitchen you will see how dirty and unkept it is. No surprise that you get sick from the food, often. I'm surprised they are allowed to stay open by Alberta Health. Friends of mine have gone their for drinks and became ill from the draft beer. So only drink bottled beer if you are there.
-The management and staff are also lacking. Chronically understaffed so don't expect a drink in a timely manner. The female staff stand at the service bar and just sit on their phones texting. They also eat food while working all the time, and NEVER ONCE have I witnessed them wash their hands before serving customers, even after they smoke. They will eat a piece of pizza, clear a dirty table, eat another piece of pizza and then serve you your food. The owner's daughter, the "manager" can usually be found just sitting on a bar stool all night gossiping. During World Cup I saw the intoxicated owner Jon I believe his name is, berate a customer who tried to send their food back. We used to have to go here when we moved to Cochrane due to lack of options, but after watching the wife yell at staff in front of customers I see no reason to ever go back. 2 incidents of this happening, are you serious?
-If you want tardy, rude customer service in a place that has awful food, well then go to Ducks. Their only saving grace is that they have TV's. With almost no other sports pubs in town (maybe BP's) that is the only reason I can imagine why they are still in business. Just another example of an old local bar with no standards at all. I'd rather stay home then risk getting sick here again.
-If you think my experiences are isolated go on Facebook and you will find a review about a couple sending back their food because it was overcooked. The end result was the cook and owner yelled at the couple in public about not knowing what they are talking about. Read a book on how to run a restaurant people, or let actual qualified people do it for you.
Highly disappointed with this place. I have had to go to this location at least 6 times, so now I am writing this review. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a "one off" as I know every business can...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe thought we would give ducks another go after being disappointed with our previous visits but unfortunately we had a not great experience again.
To begin, we waited 5-10 minutes once seated until we were noticed and given menus. There were other tables around us too, that waited longer than us to be greeted also.
We never got an intro to who our server was, it seemed as if we were an inconvenience to her night, and she seemed sassy over the fact I wanted water over an alcoholic beverage.
We ordered the stater quesadilla and 3 pounds of wings. Our starter arrived within reasonable time, but then we were billed for our entire meal before we had even received our wings and it felt like the way she took the payment that we were welcome to leave now, even though we hadnāt even received our wings yet.
We waited over 35 minutes, my partner finished his beer, and obviously was not in the mood for another seeing how service was going. We also watched surrounding tables waiting with empty beer glasses. We watched our server eating wings behind the bar openly, before we even got our wings.
So we had pulled over another server explaining that our food had not yet arrived, but our server had already made us pay for our meal.
Within minutes our server arrived with our wings, no acknowledgment, apology or anything. The wings? Warm if that, dry, chewy, and under sauced and certainly by the time I was half way through them, they were cold, and had become quite unappetizing.
We left, and our server had the audacity to wish us a good evening, as if our experience was the reflection of a āgreat nightā.
I have a lot of empathy and compassion for those who work in this industry as I did too for over a decade, and thatās why even upon our previous poor experiences, we decided to give it one more go.
With high food costs, a struggling economy and a desire to support our local businesses we will be sure not to...
Ā Ā Ā Read morerating: ā ā ā ā ā . As reviewed in our local community paper, The Cochrane Post: Ducks on the Roof won their category in our 2023 annual Readerās Choice Awards for BEST PIZZA, and they won by a mile with over 50% of the vote. What an excellent excuse to order pizza, itās for work ... a review for the a paper ... I had to order a large pizza to do the review, for work ... WOW. So good, I can see why they won their category. I called in my order for pick up and they requested 25 minutes. Drive right up, lots of parking + bike rack. Fast. Fresh. Super friendly staff. Family run. GREAT PIZZA. Very welcoming when you come in and I went up to the bar to pick up my order. Nice and super friendly staff and so was the manager. Quite full for a Wednesday lunch, itās a large space with bistro tables, booths, lots of windows, welcoming and comfortable. My pizza was excellent - piping hot, crust was crispy and chewy at the same time, not too thick, light and not too heavy. Nice blend of cheeses right to the edge and tasty, slightly spicy tomato sauce and just the right amount of fresh toppings including nice thick slices of fresh tomatoes ā just the right amount of toppings & sauce because you can pick it up without everything sliding...
