My Greek Plate is a longtime Cochrane staple. I have been coming here for nearly 10 years, and you'll be hard-pressed to find something that isn't delicious. Even though I heard the owners have changed partway through those 10 years, the quality, service, and dishes have continued to impress.
Because I have tried a fair portion of their menu over the years, I will provide a small rated list of individual menu options.
Appetizers Dolmades: One of the first dishes I tried here. It is tender, and well seasoned. I would often save the sauce it came with to eat with my entree. 5/5
Calamari: These are pretty much as good as you'd get at most places in AB, which is pretty good, but being landlocked limits how good it can truly be. 4/5
Spanakopita: I only had this once in a take out order, and it was pretty delicious, but it was a bit on the dry side. Perhaps it would have been just right had I eaten it immediately in person. 4/5
Crab Cakes: Delicious. Very well seasoned in every aspect of the dish, from the crab cakes to the salad and the tzatziki. Can't wait to have them again. 5/5
Avgolemono Soup: Honestly, this one was a little disappointing. It was decent, but it required I add additional lemon at home to get that aspect of the soup come through. I love lemon, so perhaps I expected more of it in this dish that I did not get. As well, the flavour was vaguely reminiscent of Campbell's soup? There were much larger and fresher chunks of vegetables and chicken but flavour wise it was one of my first thoughts. 3/5
Mains Lunch side salad: A classic and crisp Greek salad. Solid part of the plate 5/5
Dinner vegetables: Like all the sides, these vegetables are superb. I especially like the roasted red peppers, which practically melt in your mouth. 5/5
Lunch/Dinner side rice: The rice here is very tasty, not at all dry, and pairs great with the others sides and whatever main you're having. 5/5
Lunch/Dinner potatoes: This is my perfect potato. I have come here just to get the potato only, with tzatziki. There is so much flavour that bursts from these potatoes, I often wish I could work here for a few months in the kitchen to learn how to make them. I will always return for these. 6/5
Chicken/Beef/Pork Souvlaki: All very good options for meat. You can tell they've been marinated based on the flavour and are usually tender. I have had the off stick of meat in a takeout option which was quite overcooked, but this was only once for the beef and hasn't happened again. 5/5
Kotopoulo Gemisto: This dish was quite nice with the lemon sauce. I do think the chicken was a little dry, perhaps because of being split open for the spinach and feta, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. 4/5
Filet de Sole: Absolutely delicious piece of fish. Quite a unique dish in this area of Cochrane, there isn't usually multiple seafood options which I appreciate. Definitely recommend. 5/5
Dessert Chocolate Torte: Definitely a sharing dessert. By the time you're done apps&dinner, this portion is plenty for 2 or to take home with you for later. Quite rich and fudgy, which is really up my alley. Maybe not something to get everytime you come, but definitely...
Read moreWe used to enjoy visiting this place once or twice a year. We traveled all the way from Calgary. We enjoyed all of our previous visits, but unfortunately we cannot say the same about our last visit
From the beginning, it was obvious that the restaurant is under staffed which resulted in longer waiting time for seating and service. Menu items were what we used to, but prices went up. The only waitress appeared every 20 min or so which was really frustrating to order something and sit and wait.
The food quality in this visit was below standard. I always order Lamb Shank at this place. This time it came late, over cooked, burned solid meat at edges and most importantly SOAKED with tomato sauce which covered the taste of everything else in the plate. Every bite of rice or vegetable just turned onto scooping tomato sauce.... really did not appreciate that.
We wanted to try another item we used to love and that was the Baklava. So we ordered two. The waitress was like, "oh you are lucky we only have two left"... when the baklava arrived, it was obvious that it was one piece/portion cut into two halves to make two portions and it was just old and stale really disgusting (next time I will buy two dozen of fresh Turkish Baklava for the price of this old two pieces at this Greek restaurant).
Not to mention that while we were sitting on the patio, we noticed at some point the waitress at the back of the property chatting with someone and petting their dog with her hands and then coming back to serving people.
We did not see staff or visitors using masks for COVID. Staff had no masks and no gloves and there was no social distancing measures enforced.
Eventually, we paid north of $200 for unpleasant experience.
We simply left in disbelief how this place deteriorated since our previous visits. Most importantly, we vowed to our selves "NEXT TIME WE ARE HUNGRY, WE WILL JUST ORDER PIZZA AT HOME" rather than wasting money at this supposedly fancy Greek...
Read moreWe recently dined at My Greek Plate and had a lovely experience overall. We started with the refreshing Watermelon Salad, featuring juicy watermelon, crisp cucumber, mint, crumbled feta, and a light lime honey vinaigrette. It was vibrant and cooling, though it came with only two olives, we would’ve loved a few more to balance the sweetness with some briny depth.
We also had the Pita Platter (Single Dip), which came with warm, fluffy house baked pita and our choice of dip hummus. The hummus was creamy and well seasoned, drizzled with olive oil and a hint of paprika. A simple but delicious starter.
The Calamari was another hit, lightly fried to a crisp perfection, tender inside, and paired beautifully with lemon and a tangy dipping sauce. Not greasy at all and full of flavor.
The standout dish of the night was definitely the Lamb Shank, slow-braised until the meat was literally falling off the bone. It was rich, deeply flavorful, and served with a smooth, garlicky jus that elevated every bite. Easily the highlight of the meal.
The Souvlaki Chicken, however, was a bit of a letdown. While the seasoning of oregano, lemon, and olive oil was spot on and classic, the chicken itself was slightly dry. A little more juiciness would have brought it up to par with the rest of the dishes.
Service was excellent, friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We felt well taken care of from start to finish.
All in all, a great place for fresh, flavorful Greek food. We’d come back, especially for...
