We have been to half hitch several times. Because they are a small batch brewery, I would recommend requesting a small sample before ordering a pitcher or a pint. The flavor and hops intensity can vary. The atmosphere is homey. Love the old sports equipment on the walls. They have improved heating on their glassed in patio and you no longer need a thermal layer below your clothes. Food here is OK. The burgers vary, and can have a texture that approaches rubbery, depending on how much they are overcooked. The Wagu chili is excellent. Fries are always crispy! We enjoy the lettuce wraps. The staff turnover seems fairly high and service here can also be hit and miss. Sometimes service is prompt and sometimes it is extremely indifferent and slow. On our last visit we had someone who avoided eye contact, spoke so quickly you could hardly understand him, and came so long after the food arrived (not the quick "how is everything, and the chance to ask for hot sauce) that I thought we had better request the cheque. ( Didn't want to be stuck there for another 30 minutes of no service). When he brought the card reader, he promptly picked up our plates (stacked mine on the bottom), even though we had not yet finished eating. Yes, Matthew S. , you know what I am talking about. I wasn't happy that I didn't get to finish my meal. Won't be going back there for a long while.

Popped in here after an errand, my husband had been and loved it and wanted to share. We were offered the covered patio but at -20 outside we declined. We were sat directly under the path of the air conditioner, which was running strong even at -20, so my who experience was tempered by not being able to take my coat off inside. The drinks were AMAZING. I would return for the Coconut Margarita alone. My husband was introduced to nitro beer, the staff was great at explaining the process and differences (he thought it was just for coffee). The food is where they lost me. It wasn't bad, but it didn't meet the expectations. We started with burnt ends, which seemed like they just took meat chunks and sauced them. Not burnt brisket ends. The kids meal was an obnoxiously large size. The fish tacos were filled with an overpowering cheese. Creamy and tangy but so much it coated your mouth and blocked out the rest. The service was a tiny bit slow, and by the time we were done seemed far more focused on bussing empty tables than offering dessert, more drinks, or a cheque. I'd still try to come back in summer for drinks, but wouldn't come for a meal.

Walked over to Half Hitch Brewery since it's been open for a while and I have recently moved back to Cochrane. Parking lot was neat and tidy and so was the entrance to the restaurant. The dining area is a mix of rustic and modern and the view is awesome. Service was prompt and courteous, the food I tried was delicious (Poutine and Wings) and very reasonably priced( just slightly over 20$ for both). Shout out to Erik who works in the kitchen for the sauce recommendation (Carolina style mustard BBQ sauce, which is not a wing sauce but used in the pulled Pork sandwich) and Brandon the bartender who served me, Brandon was quick efficient and personable. Special mention to young lady server who assisted with my bill when the bartender got busy for the life of me I can't remember her name now will find out and update the review. Great food, good service and was nice to see the team work amongst the staff. Will be back often! **additional review** - May 1st - The Server Mike was excellent. The food and drinks were served promptly and tasted awesome! We will be back again!

On Wednesday the 24th of September, I took my mom out for a nice dinner at my favourite place in Cochrane, The Half Hitch.ā€ We had a young waitress that had dark brown curly hair. We sat nearest the entrance which was cold. She was rude and had an attitude from the start, for no reason. I mean she came with a bad attitude. Everything was extremely slow! From the time she came to take our drink order she took forever maybe 15-20 mins before even talking to her. My mom ordered a Virgin Caesar, no ice not too spicy. She is sweet and asked very nicely. I tried it and it was very spicy, filled with ice and was extremely obviously watered down. Probably had 1/3 actually with Clamato juice just sitting at the bottom. I had to talk to another server cause ours was nowhere to be seen forever again, and then we got another drink. It was completely different with dark red juice, cause that’s the colour that it is when it’s not been heavily watered down. The Parmesan cheese and garlic wings had bit of cheese slices on top of it instead of powdered. Kinda strange…Feels like they ran out and tried to pass this off as normally how it’s served. I was so feed up after forever waiting at the end that I had to walk to the bar which she was working at the same time, and asked for the bill cause we wanted out of there. She just acted like she didn’t care and didn’t want to be there. What a disappointing experience. And no apologies throughout it all. With no admission of doing anything wrong. I mean if she didn’t want to be there it couldn’t have been more obvious and shouldn’t have been working there. I have planned 2 evenings out there in the near future and am concerned about more of the same. I think management should be aware of this and the Cochrane community also be aware too. Her decisions ruined our...

Update: April 12, 2024

This place has changed and I have been here quite a few times now, the food has declined quite a bit, which is kinda sad. It's very basic menu, the fine touches they made in the beginning is no longer there. Today i ordered their buffalo chicken dip and it was so salty! I could not finish it and we have been going to their indoor patio for awhile now cause it's dog friendly. We have a small 12 lb dog and we put her on a chair due to she has food allergies so she's on a strict food diet. We don't want her getting food off the floor in case people drop stuff. Today we were told they did not allow dogs on the chair. I understand the reasoning. We just don't want her grabbing food from the ground. So, as of today, we won't be heading back there anymore. There are a lot of places they dont mind at all. We will be going there from now on.

We came here for lunch and it was a windy day, so I did not get to sit in their nice patio. But we ordered a very good lunch. I ordered their Chicharon which was served warm and perfectly spiced...Addictive! I then ordered the 1881 Burger served with bacon jam! (Need I say more?) My friend ordered a Caesar salad and this version was good served with fried capers! Fried Capers!! We also ordered Mac N' Cheese. Which was good but we felt the cheese was lacking, which I feel most restaurants do. I also ordered on tap their craft beer Fire N' Fury Red Ale, which was a very nice clean beer. Overall the experience was great the wait staff was awesome! The establishment was cozy and a great gathering...

1st experience wasn't great. Ordered take-out through the app. Tried to order GF, and had to change my order- no problem, hostess was nice. Waiting outside for the order, can hear the kitchen staff complaining about the gluten free order. 35 minutes later, food arrived and one meal was missing fries. Went back in and told the hostess, she happily got them. 45 minutes has passed, and we finally have our entire take out order! We decided since we could not make our plans because of waiting for a 45 min take out order to just eat our meal on the patio. Hostess was sweet and gave us waters. Food was good, but not worth $45 and 45 min wait to eat it. I complained to the hostess who applologized, and was sweet, it wasn't her fault. I called after to complain about the wait, and the number is forwarded to voice-mail, which isn't set up! Suggestions: Tell your kitchen staff to keep comments about customers quiet if the door is open to the parking lot. Specify the gluten free on the menu to make it easier to identify what exactly can be made gluten free. For example, brisket is marinaded in beer, can't order, even though there is a GF bun option. Give your hostesses a raise, they are very sweet and tried to help. Suggest getting a manager to ensure we left happy. Just because we don't yell at staff and are polite, doesn't mean we are ok with how this 1st...
