Horrible! I don't even know where to start! The only pro to this restaurant is the spacious dining room and view of the harbour, that's it! The buffet was terrible. Many items not labelled and what is, is typed out in tiny (almost microscopic) font, printed out and messily taped to the steam table. The labels are dirty, and look like they've been used for years. The selection is poor, and not appealing! Beef triangles, deep-fried chicken - even the titles are off putting. The meat dishes consisted of 90% fat, the only thing that tasted like chicken was the fish! Gross. The dessert/salad bar was completely neglected. The fruit definitely had been left out way too long as it had a pale, dried out appearance. The apple slices were put in water to prevent browning, but we're completely mushy. My two year old honestly didn't eat a single thing. The dining room was okay, but it was full of dirty dishes since the tables that surrounded us were not cleared or cleaned our entire meal. Even our dirty dishes were not taken away when we were done, but of course, the bill was brought without being asked. The only server was unfriendly. She may just have been very shy, but she definitely provided poor service. Like I said, she never cleaned up, took away our dirty dishes taking up room on our table, nor appear even remotely inviting. She was the only waitress however, so she may just need some help or more training. Lastly, the buffet was way overpriced, especially for such terrible service and a horrible meal. The iced tea was really the only decent item they offered, and I'm glad as it was almost $8 for two small glasses! We ended up paying almost $60 for a meal that completely grossed us out, in an unfriendly atmosphere scattered with other people's dirty dishes. We left a $2 tip, and will...
Read moreWe had our traditional NYE Chinese meal, this time at House of Wong. A first, for us, but definitely not our last!
NYE was hectic and the one server was absolutely run off her feet, between sit-downs and take-aways. Despite this, she remained friendly and attentive.
Unfortunately, we believe our order didn't make it to the kitchen after it was taken because a number of tables who ordered after us received their orders, ate, paid and left before our appetisers arrived. However, the server noticed how long we'd been sitting there quietly, hustled to get us some food, and then the host who brought us our entrees offered to heavily discount our meal without any prompting from us. (In a rare moment of patience, we had realised stuff happens and given the time of year, we just sat and enjoyed each other's company.)
Once we received our food, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity. HUGE combination plates (seriously, we could have shared one and both been full). We tried so many yummy items... everything was well-seasoned and cooked very well. The gravy on the Almond Chicken was some of the best gravy we've ever had at a restaurant. The meat egg rolls were awesome. The rice was addictive... I'm not sure what it was - we rarely eat our rice - but we ate almost all of it from our plates.
Definitely worth checking out while passing...
Read moreGarbage.....how can it be so awful....I have had Chinese food in several countries from many different Chinese restaurants and it's all been very similar in taste and quality....but ....omg.... The stuff they call Chinese food here in Nova Scotia Canada is disappointing to say the least....it's horrible....it's like they just opened a bunch of cheap cheap Chinese food packages from some supermarket and re heated them...it tastes processed and sickly...way overpriced for what you get... I am so disappointed...I love Chinese food and this stuff just is not up to the quality of what I've had before and what they advertise....anyone who thinks that this stuff is acceptable has either really low standards or has never tasted good quality...
