I really do not want to write this review, but this is the second time that my young (9) daughter and I received atrocious service here. We do not visit KAP much, so that may be the reason, as the waitresses seem to have a clique thing going with certain customers.
We came in for lunch, and were greeted by Taralyn as we entered. From the start, I could tell that she was less than pleased to see us arrive.
I noticed that there was only one older gentleman seated, so I was hopeful. After we took our seat Taralyn came by to give us our menus and take our drink orders. She came back in a few minutes to drop off our drinks and take our food order. Another table came in, consisting of three men. They seemed to know the other sever, Lorna, very well, and she sat to chat with them for about ten minutes. She too walked by our table many times, but had zero interest in addressing the lacklustre service from Taralyn.
The food came within 15 minutes, which was great timing. The food is quite good pub fare, and I have nothing to complain about there. However, this was the last time that Taralyn decided that my daughter and I were worth talking to, unless it was obvious that we were done. She did not inquire about the food, did not offer to refill our drinks, did not ask if we were in need of anything else, and only picked up the used tableware when it was set at the very edge of the table. It wasn't as if she was busy, as there were a total of six patrons in the pub. She also walked by our table dozens of times, and it was very obvious that she was either not happy to be there, or did want us as customers. No eye contact, and a very displeased demeanour was the best of what we received from her.
Again, I dislike writing such reviews, but this kind of treatment seems to be normal for my daughter and I, and there is no discernible reason as to why. I enjoy the food, and the restaurant's atmosphere, but I cannot say that I am apt to return with the service I have received.
The other time that we came in for lunch it took more than an hour for our food to arrive, and the waitress we had was almost non-existent in the front of house. It was a bit busier at that time, but there was more wait staff compared to today. The head waitress did realize the mess that was thrust upon us this day, and profusely apologized and comped our meal. I still left a hefty tip, to at least show appreciation for the recognition.
TL;DR: King's Arms Pub is a decent place to enjoy some pub food, and has a very nice old-school feel to it. I enjoy the food there, but have received horrid service two-out-of the five times I have visited, both times with my young daughter. I do not feel that it is the place for me, as I am not a part of the seemingly clique customer base.
I am sorry for the poor staff review, but I do not feel...
Read moreWe were intending on going somewhere else and then found out that the other place was just a takeout. Then we looked across the street and we saw the King's Arm Pub, we decided to eat there. We are glad we did!
At first when you go in the front door, it is a little confusing as there are like three doors or even more to get into the pub. We chose the door on the right, and then we got inside and realized any of the doors would have lead us to the pub itself. Then another confusing aspect is that there are no signs saying whether we were supposed to seat ourselves or if we needed to wait to be seated. We eventually found a server and she told us to sit wherever we wanted. We sat in a booth close to the big fireplace, which is one they actually use we were told. The bar is also really massive and really nice wood. The place seems like it is an old pub from way back.
We ordered our food, it was wing night which also includes thai chicken bites, so we had some of them, I had a triple cheese and bacon burger with a side cesar salad and then Meagan had a cobb salad. When our food came we could not believe the amazing portion sizes! My burger was massive and her cobb salad was as big as a full sized dinner plate in a big bowl. It was very delicious also! We did not have room for dessert unfortunately. I am sure that would have been amazing too!
Lorna S did a great job as our server, it was busy and her and one other server were doing the whole pub, I believe someone else was just coming in when we left. It was busy though! The pub itself is also quite big and seats a good amount of people.
We will definitely need to go back again and get some more delicious food! Maybe the fireplace will be in use next time too!
TLDR - Amazing food, atmosphere, and service! Would definitely recommend eating here if in Kentville! We most certainly will...
Read moreI always loved going to the Kings Arms in years past when I had the opportunity to go and recommended it to others quite often. What I used to enjoy was the relaxed atmosphere, good food, service, reasonable prices and ambience.
Not having been there for some time I looked forward to going to the Kings Arms for one of my favorite drinks during the recent Apple Blossom parade.
Though the pub was rather full with sit down patrons when I went in.. the two bartenders behind the bar were not in the midst of taking or fulfilling orders when I arrived. I politely asked if I could have a Swedish berry drink (made up of amaretto, banana liqueur, red sourpuss and cranberry juice).
The female bartender responded by looking me in the eye and immediately saying a stern "NO"... nothing else, just NO. I politely asked if there was a reason for that and she responded with a stern "we are NOT making any fancy drinks today".
Granted it would have been a busy day for them but neither her or the bartender next to her were serving anyone at all at the bar when I asked for the drink. There were no other patrons at their large side of the bar at the time and it appeared that they had the ingredients.
It would have only taken a short time to make it and the bartender had such a cold demeanor in her refusal. She actually came off as hostile.
I rarely get the opportunity to get out to do something fun these days so to be able to go to one of my old favorite pubs and order my favorite drink and just soak up the atmosphere was something I was looking forward to.
Not anymore, at least not at...
