Gratia Cafe — Restaurant in Township of Langley

I visited this café on March 8th at 7:30 PM and was extremely disappointed with the service. Upon entering, no one greeted me. I noticed the staff member who was supposed to be at the till was busy with closing tasks instead of assisting customers.

Since the till was facing the customer—similar to many self-order systems used in cafés today—I assumed it was for self-service and proceeded to place my order. Suddenly, the staff member, who had previously been too busy to acknowledge me, reacted with shock and disgust, saying “Excuse me?” before aggressively pulling the till back towards her. Her expression made me feel as if I had done something wrong, which was both confusing and upsetting.

If customers are not supposed to use the till, it shouldn’t be positioned that way in the first place. It seemed like the staff were more focused on closing than actually providing service. Based on their reaction afterward, I suspect there was a miscommunication between employees about leaving the till accessible to avoid serving customers while they finished closing.

I left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, as if I had been treated like a thief for simply trying to place an order. This used to be one of my favorite neighborhood cafés, but after this experience, I’m not sure I’ll...

I am very disappointed by my last experience here. I ordered food for in restaurant. We waited 20-30 minutes to be told that the particular sandwich on my order was sold out and could we pick another. We picked another (we could only pick limited options as the person eating was vegetarian, and understandably, many items were sold out). I was asked to come up to the counter and pay the difference in price between sandwiches after finding one that the person could eat. The total difference was $3.25, on a total $50.34 tab. I confirmed I was hearing them correctly and was refunded the original cost and asked to pay for the new item. The place was busy and food was nice but they need to have this policy updated as they constantly have things selling out and orders changing. I will not be back but I hope to see this...

Really nice patio and dining experience. This place was very busy and had a lot of staff so service was still quick. We ordered the carrot cake, Oreo cake and almond latte and they were all very delicious. I really liked that the cake was not too sweet, just the right amount. And the icing texture was very creamy.

Update Tried their berry strudel and vegan oatmeal cookie with a regular latte. The berry strudel was perfect, one half was custard the other half was I believe black berry if I’m not mistaken. The berry was more on the tart side and the custard was not overly sweet, the two flavours were perfectly balanced. The vegan cookie was surprisingly gooey in the middle, the edges were a bit tough.
