I am updating my review today, because last night I went back to the Walnut Grove Pub on a Saturday for the first time in several weeks, and I was delighted to see Christina working the floor again. The all-star serving team of Janna, Faiza, and Christina is world-class.
The overall vibe of the place last night felt like that of the place I fell in love with originally--minus the arcade games and the little stage. I want to add that I at first was sad about the removal of the video games a while ago, and more recently I was saddened by the removal of the stage; however, I now appreciate the extra space that these removals have created.
Below is what I had written two reviews ago, which I still stand by (my previous, most recent, review mourned the removal of Christina from the floor on Saturdays):
I love the Walnut Grove Pub. Janna, Faiza, Christina, Sue, Verdon aka VJ the DJ, and whoever cooks my steak there are great!
Janna always welcomes me personally and makes sure that everything is not just okay, but also really good. As always, I like to note that she was the only reason why I went back after Walnut Grove Pub experienced some "difficulty" a while ago. Once, she had time and, even though she was not my official server, brought me my order of hot wings with a finger-bowl--very classy!
Faiza, Christina, and Sue not only never seem bothered when I ask for something (I cannot believe that this is actually a thing, but it is amazing how some servers at other places seem bothered when you actually want to buy more stuff--even when it is not busy), but these WGP superstars ALWAYS go above and beyond the call of duty.
Sue even stepped up during a recent Thursday karaoke night by making sure that a patron that reacted to my performance by screaming at me not only left me alone, but also left the building.
Verdon aka VJ the DJ always does a great job as a karaoke host and makes me feel welcome--to the point where I feel "obligated" to go to his shows, just because he is so kind to me.
The chef or chefs cook (or, rather, undercook) my blue-rare steak to perfection and make some of the best hot wings around.

ย ย ย Read moreWe went here specifically just for the karaoke that they host. We didnโt eat anything during our visit because the drinks are expensive enough on their own! We spent around $20-$25 for 3 drinks between the two of us-a sleeve of their house made beer and two single, mixed vodka drinks. Which is a bit pricey in my opinion. But like I said, we just went there for the karaoke specifically. I personally have found that they donโt really ever have any kind of amazing drink specials here that make any sort of sense for the days that they run on-for instance, on Saturday night when we were there, they had coronas and kamikaze shots on special-which to me, doesnโt really seem all that inclusive since not everyone enjoys drinking beer!? I just wouldnโt really recommend this bar to anyone for any reason other than the karaoke, which was top notch, as always. We got to sing multiple songs each since it was pretty dead in there, especially for a Saturday night, which I thought was kind of strange and sad to see a bar that empty on a Saturday night! Also, the service is pretty terrible too! The bar tender was friendly enough, but there was only one server working there for the entire bar, and even though we were sitting at a table, we didnโt see her even once the entire time we were there for the 3 hours or so that we were there. So we had to go to the bar and order drinks from the bartender ourselves, which is fine I suppose.. but I personally didnโt really feel like our business was even appreciated at all. So, I guess the short version of the story is that I would definitely not return here again if they didnโt host our favourite karaoke djs there! (Shoutout to VJ the DJ and to Nat! We...
ย ย ย Read moreMy friend and I arrived at 10:37 on a Friday night during karaoke, which is not my jam but he was driving so I rode along. The place was not very busy but was super loud. I noted the time when we arrived. We waited several minutes that seemed longer than usual for a server to arrive. When the server came, she brought one menu and told us the kitchen was closed so it was drinks only. As my friend was perusing the menu, she asked what I wanted to drink. I was waiting to see the one menu before I chose. She seemed to understand that we needed a minute and left but never came back. Finally my friend went to the bar to order our drinks. After waiting until 10:57 while having our ears assaulted with karaoke and our eyes assaulted with the Calgary Stampede steer wrestling on the TV screen and never receiving any drinks we left. I have been to this place in the past when they were hosting live music and the service was always poor. I would never go back again, even if it was someone...
