HIDDEN GEM
I recently dined at Viet Flavour Restaurant, located at the intersection of Broadway and Burrard, and I must say, the food is a hidden gem in Vancouver.
Growing up here, I consider Vietnamese cuisine a local staple, possibly more authentically Canadian than poutine. Despite the ongoing construction and the normal-looking facade, with limited parking upfront, the culinary experience inside tells a different story. The flavors are outstanding—a solid 10/10. We ordered the rare beef pho, spring rolls, and beef stew, all of which were impeccably prepared. The chef truly excels, turning simple ingredients into extraordinary dishes.
While the restaurant could benefit from a makeover or a new location (wish the construction would be finished already). But don’t let appearances deceive you. There’s tons of parking behind the building and easy access via a side walkway. It would be helpful if the restaurant put a sign in the back to show which building/parking was theirs, but we found it after a minute.
I will definitely return next time I’m on the West side...
Read moreI personally do not have anything against a family run restaurant, however I do not believe that the ratings are representative of what you receive. I feel that at the price point, there are many other restaurants of higher quality and are more authentic (however, have far lower ratings).
When we came, we ordered the house special pho and chicken pho. The beef pho I had tasted of just water and salt. I honestly don't believe they used any spices at all and if they did, it was heavily muted or non-existent. .
The chicken soup tasted of simply boiled chicken bones and generic asian chicken broth powder. In addition to that, for a $12 bowl of soup, I excepted more than 4 small pieces of chicken (which was what we received).
I would recommend to try other better quality spots in the neighbourhood that spend money on actual quality ingredients (or just proper ingredients).
It is pretty clear to me that this place is cutting corners to...
Read moreGood experience! Small and comfy Vietnamese restaurant with a pretty good variety of dishes, I loved the deep fried spring roll of shrimps, it was really fresh and crunchy and the sauce went very well on it, it's a must for an appetizer dish. Also, I loved the lychee and ice drink, it was really refreshing specially in this hot weather, unfortunately I forgot to take a picture but I really recommend it. Then I ordered the shrimp and chicken Bun vermicelli, it was tasty. My husband tried the beef Bun vermicelli but felt it was missing more flavor. One special point that I really like from majority of viet places is that their orange juice is trully natural from the fruit, we loved it. Prices are worth it regarding the size of the food and the service is fast...
