A jewel of a venue. A wonderful theatre with professionally trained staff. Lighting and sound were on point. The acoustics were excellent, ensuring every note and word resonates beautifully throughout the space. The venue's layout ensured an enjoyable experience. Everything was very well organized. Top-notch venue to take in a show! Will always be back for more wonderful shows.
I watched Cambodian Rock Band and they delivered a breathtaking performance I will never forget. I empathize with the tragic history that the play brought to life. It explores the resilience of music and the weight of family secrets. It touched my heart, my soul and my spirit. Lauren Yee tackles a period of horrific genocide and builds a complex story where humor, tragedy, and song can all exist at the same time. This play tells a piece of history often overlooked. The play keeps the whole spirit of Cambodia and the culture alive.
This play is truly wonderful. Well-developed characters, a history lesson, and great performances. It’s performed by a cast of talented individuals. They bring such a powerful, inspiring, and enlightening show to the stage.
From what I could see from my seat, the whole audience was captivated by the production. Cambodian Rock Band truly deserved its ovation. The talent is insane. I was on my feet clapping and cheering at the end. The storytelling and music have touched me deeply. It’s clear that the show’s impact, power and beauty has rocked the people of Vancouver.
Cambodian Rock Band is an important musical that should be seen by all. It was a memorable evening that left me wanting to learn more. The show was so electric, so deeply moving that I was thinking about it long after the lights went down. It is deeply impactful, and is a must-see...
Read moreStaff were fantastic.Had tickets for myself and out of town cousin to attend Peter Pan Gone Wrong! Enjoyed a pre theater leisurely stroll through the Granville Island Market. Then went to the Arts Club Theater …… Daaaah…. It was closed, panic set in we had the wrong theater. Its at the Stanley Industrial off island. We had 20 mins before show but we’d give it a try. Left the car as the island was so busy saw a Uber close by and grabbed it. Got to Stanley with five minutes to spare. Tickets on my phone weren’t showing but the man in the booth had obviously seen this all before. He was kind hearted, helped us sort it out and reassured us we would be at our seats before curtain call. Grabbed a couple of glasses of red wine, sat down as the lites dimmed, we made it! Pan Gone Wrong was so good. We’ve never laughed so hard and continually through an entire production before. One of the most complex sets I’ve ever seen. Players seem to really enjoy it as well. Whatever could go wrong with a production did go wrong. (And our own bumbling way of attending LOL) Theater was packed for a Saturday afternoon. Seats and sight lines were great. Little dingy inside but well kept and historic. Snack and Alcohol servings you can take back to your seat. When we left we asked a young lady to take our photo in front of the poster. She obliged and amazingly she was part of the cast! Thank you Stanley players and staff for saving the day and making this special...
Read moreI'd planned to keep mum about my (and my sister's) thoughts re The Three Musketeers show we saw tonight, but I just noticed a Google prompt asking for a review, so in the hope my feedback will somehow assist the Arts Club with future decision-making...
I will start by saying we left during the intermission and would likely have done so much earlier if not for appearing disrespectful. I know I know, I buried lede. As to why...
One of the primary performers was either miscast, needs more seasoning, or just isn't a very good actor. It was painful to watch at times; The script was amateurish and kept flip-flopping between appropriate language from the time period, and current colloquial vernacular; The casting was, well, inconsistent.
On the plus side: The production itself was creative and particularly worked well with scene changes; The staging, choreography, and costume design were very good; Last but not least, the swordsmanship during fight scenes was excellent and was definitely the highlight.
NOTE: We've had seasons tickets to the Stanley, as well as Granville Island (and previously at BMO Theatre in Olympic Village) for many years and typically enjoy the plays/musicals' entertainment value. Tonight was...
