North country Inn restaurant makes you feel like you're in the north for sure. The entire place is essentially a big log cabin off a main road, and the mounted heads of deer, bison, elk, and moose give you no indication of anything other than this is a place for the northern folk who love the outdoors. The entire atmosphere was that of an older generation focused establishment and the ambiance was a but dated, but the place itself was clean. The staff was polite, however they were very slow. I won't count this against them as their attitude made up for a portion of their speed. I ordered a burger and fries with a side of onion rings, I order things like this because I'm a firm believer it is a great benchmark for a kitchen staff. These are some of the most common foods consumed in North America and every quality restaurant should be able to do it well. The food arrived, again a bit slow. Almost a half hour after ordered, and it was not busy in there as far as I was able to scope out. The burger itself was of OK quality, the BBQ sauce on it was a nice flavour, and added to the over profile, however the patty was bland and the burger itself was very greasy and I'm not saying juicy, just a lot of grease. The fries were semi cold, and not fully cooked as they were kind flimsy, the onion rings is where I had a bit more of an issue. I love onion rings, and although they were OK, they were also semi cold, and very salty. Salt is a great thing when used right. This was not one of those instances. Overall, I'd say it wasn't terrible food, but it wasn't great. The service was friendly and polite , but very slow. And the cost was way overpriced for the quality of food and service given. I'd suggest going for the atmosphere with a couple of buddies for a few beers, but beyond that I don't know if it would be my first choice. I'll be going again and trying something recommended by others and see if my...

Read moreWell, first off, I have loved this place. I often stopped for dinner a couple of times a year when I happened to be traveling through. I've likely eaten there a dozen times and I loved it. This time was different. I don't know if it's changed hands or what, but the quality was disgraceful this time. My potato had been split, which is common, and half way through it, I discovered a hair. The pork ribs were barely cooked. In fact, I would say they were far short of cooked. Parts were the colour of raw pork. The fat was a thick slab on top, not rendered down, and the sauce tasted like... well... Kraft sauce. I'm afraid I've lost my little oasis in this...
