Oh, where do I even begin with this disappointing experience at Westend Grill House? After seeing all the hype on social media, I thought I was in for a treat, but boy was I wrong. I drove a whopping 50 kilometers to give this place a shot, and what a waste of time and gas it turned out to be.
Sure, the ambience was nice, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. The steak, the centerpiece of any grill house, was served cold! I could have left it outside for an hour and achieved the same result. It was like they just took it out of the fridge and served it straight to my table. And don't even get me started on the fries. They were so hard and burnt that I questioned whether they were using old, stale oil to cook them. I've had better fries at fast-food joints.
To add insult to injury, instead of the promised asparagus, they had the audacity to serve broccoli! Come on, if you're running a high-end steakhouse, at least stick to your own menu and don't try to cheap out on the ingredients. Speaking of cheaping out, the owner seems to have mastered that art. The condiments on the table, like ketchup and hot sauce, were laughable. They were so stingy with them that it felt like they were rationing them out as if they were gold. For the prices they charge, I expect a generous amount of condiments, not a miserly portion.
And here's the icing on the cake of this disappointing meal: they couldn't even manage to provide a chilled Coca-Cola can. Really? I can get a chilled drink at any regular diner, but apparently, this high-end grill house can't manage that.
The only saving grace was the server (MAY), who did provide decent service. But let's be honest, good service alone cannot make up for such a dismal dining experience. In conclusion, I give Westend Grill House a generous two stars, solely because of the server (MAY). But as far as the food and overall experience go, it was a massive letdown. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this overhyped, underdelivering disappointment of a restaurant as the owner is just betting out on...
Read moreIt was my first time trying this place out. The main reason I wanted to try it out because it serves halal steak. I usually have to drive to either Mississauga or Pickering for halal steak so this place is conveniently located nearby. Usually restaurants would have a bread basket and butter on the table... They didn't have any of that. We ordered the grilled calamari, garlic shrimps and two 12 ounce rib eye steaks. Grilled Calamari: it came with vegetables... there was so little calamari and was totally overwhelmed with the vegetable you have literally search for the calamari. The very few pieces that were there were good.
Garlic Shrimp: The garlic sauce was good, shrimps were 4 pieces, again smallest portion for the price and didn't have much flavour.
12 ounce Rib eye steak: The steak comes with mashed potatoes, vegetables and Peppercorn sauce. The mashed potatoes portion was again small. There was 3 tiny pieces of broccoli.... not really much for vegetables... I expected some vegetable medley such as carrots, peppers, etc. The steak was cooked properly and tasted good. The sauce came on the side. Again it was such small portion that it was barely enough for a third of the steak. I asked for extra sauce and to my surprise I was charged $3 for couple of spoons full of sauce. For a $46 steak, I expect to have sufficient amount of sauce amd they shouldn't be charging for extra if a customer requests it.
Overall experience: The steak was average however everything else was small portion for the price and they nickel and dime the client. I've had better steaks with more generous portions of appetizers and side dishes at other steak houses for similar cost. I'm glad I tried it but won't be coming back again.
I gave the manager some constructive feedback, however she was more concentrating on finding excuses rather than actually taking in the feedback. As a new establishment, I would hope they would be open to feedback and use...
Read moreI've heard that a good grill turns ordinary meals into extraordinary feasts. Well, Westend Grill House (4040 Steeles Ave W unit 1, Woodbridge, ON L4L 4Y5) is truly the master of serving an extraordinary feast - a picturesque eatery in the heart of Woodbridge, this grillhouse prides itself in the finest cuts of halal meats and flavorful ingredients. We started the meal with the fried calamari and chicken satay. With the soft interior of the squid pairing well with the crunchy exterior, the calamari was served with a cucumber mint sauce that made for a mouthwatering experience! The chicken satay was the perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savoury, with the peanut sauce being the star of the show! The wagyu burger was as delicious as it was visually stunning; black charcoal buns and a pink strawberry sauce made for a juxtaposition that went perfectly with the juicy patty and veggies. The doughnut chicken sandwich's soft doughnut-esque buns and sweet mango flavor created a brilliant taste I had never tried before! Washed down with a sparkly peach cocktail and a tropical pina colada (my favorite), the meal was truly heavenly! We still left space for dessert - the modern Westend Tiramisu was a beautiful piece of cocoa and gold flakes and The Ultimate Skillet, nestled with a buttery delicious cookie and buffalo milk vanilla ice cream made for a rich and creamy end to the meal! Should you find yourself hungry in Southern Ontario, West End is certainly worth your while. Definitely pay attention to their halal grill dishes, drinks, or desserts - you are sure to love them!
