First, the good things: ambiance is very pleasant as is the wait staff. There's ample parking, and the view of the river is pleasant, too. The food, once it came, was mostly fairly good, but here's where the trouble starts. Background: we were a larger party (8 adults, 1 toddler), and it was Mothers' Day. They were inadequately staffed on the floor, and our server was having a lot of difficulty trying to keep up. It took 25 minutes for her to get to our table for drink orders and to give us menus. A further 25 minutes, water finally arrives, and orders are taken. I must add that we had made a reservation, so we weren't springing this on the establishment. To add to my frustration, there were two manager or host types who were constantly wandering about, apparently at a loss for what to do. Clients were waiting for coffee refills (or their first cups, as in our case) or water refills or for plates to be cleared... you get the picture, I'm sure. At about the one hour mark, the party of 8 who arrived shortly after us rose to leave, just as their drink orders arrived. I felt their pain, and they were pretty clear in their dissatisfaction. About 20 minutes later, our meals arrived at last. Some were hot, some were... not. I used to be a sous-chef, and I'm absolutely certain that my salad, my hamburger, and my water shouldn't all be the same temperature! No table check, so no chance to fix the situation. All in all, over 2 hours to be served, pay, and leave. All the while the two "background " people wandered around, looking lost. Some recommendations from a long-established hotel and restaurant guy: cut back your menu and streamline your offerings, especially on days that are going to be crazy, like Mothers ' Day. A buffet would have been a far, far better option. Service and turnover are expedited, tables are cleared faster (especially if hosts and managers pitch in! Seriously, it's NOT beneath you!) For your menu, reduce the options, and do them better.. Hire more staff for'big' days. Train ancillary staff to pitch in. You have the makings of a terrific place, but I will not be back after two consecutive disappointing visits until and unless you make some...
Read moreUnfortunately we had a really bad experience at this pub. I was taking my fiance out for a date and he was very excited to have fish and chips again (Gluten Free.). I will say the perogies were very good, it was two big perogies in one order - not the best quantity but the flavour was very good. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi and my fiance ordered the two piece fish and chips. The first thing that was off was the waiter brought food to the table beside us but as he was putting their food down he quickly took the plates back around the corner and brushed something off the plate. Then came back and one of the ladies he was serving asked what that was all about, he dodged the question and left. It set an odd tone right away. After a while, our waiter returned to tell me he "couldn't sell me the mushroom gnocchi" he wasn't being direct and avoided telling me why so I ordered the mac n cheese. He wasn't sure if I could have that either so went to check. It was such a weird vibe around the whole situation and a little unsettling. Anyways, when he brought out our order, his thumb dipped into my mac n cheese. He left and then came running back to tell me he gave me the lobster mac n cheese not then regular. he asked me if I had eaten it yet and was relieved when i said no.. I assume he was going to bring it to someone else? I finally got the mac n cheese and he said to be careful, the skillet is very hot, it wasn't, i literally picked it up to take it off the serving plate because it had a bunch of greasy finger prints on it.
The food was sadly not good at all. The fish and chips had next to no fish, it was just super thick batter. The mac n cheese barely had a flavour and had glazed over from sitting out. It was an extremely disappointing experience.
To wrap this up, the table behind us had to return their food because there was "A shard of glass" in it.
The server comped our meals and we left very unsatisfied. I know people have off days but man was everything going wrong that evening.
I am sad to say we will never return or...
Read moreMy wife and I ordered two appetizers with a bottle of champagne to celebrate my wife's exam results. I had to find my server to get happy hour prices. I was actually acknowledged by her. However, she continued to talk to her friends. We waited 25 minutes casually watching hockey. We then ordered a main course. 45 minutes later, we are first informed there's a problem. Was informed that in two minutes we are good and will be served. Well, 15 minutes later, I paid for drinks and two appetizers. The vibe I had was that if you're not a regular, don't bother me. I still feel awful for tipping 15%. Should have been 0%. We live very close by. We tried 6 years ago, and the service was awful then as well. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice as shame on me. My wife and I won't be back. It's the second worst service I've ever received. A pub in Sydney Australia still holds the #1 one spot. My lovely wife worked so very hard to achieve a great grade. Her reward night is absolutely ruined. If you're not a regular, don't visit, or you will be treated as a second-class citizen. Never a penny more, simply disgusting customer service. Just to let everyone know that no one has reached out for an explanation or to find out any details at all. Pathetic, you have to know that this only points to my original post that they really don't care at all. From management on down. Disgusting waitress, disgusting management, and disgusting owners. The food, if you're lucky to receive, is subpar at best. It is also overpriced. Keep your hard earned dollars and dine somewhere else. You actually might hear, " You're not from around here, are you boy?" Said with a thick view royal accent. White...
