Wawa is an excellent stop when driving from say, Sudbury, when travelling to the Western Provinces, or driving East on your way to Toronto. It’s a cute town built around its relationship with water, nature and Canada Geese, the latter of which you will see in lights and in VERY large images all down the main drag.
If you are looking for excellent food, a good atmosphere and great service, then look no further than the Wawa Goose Bar and Grill. We did not stay at the attached Wawa Motor Inn (this time) on our annual cross-Canada trip but I’ve attached a couple of pictures of the front desk & lobby (so you might want to check that out too - as we will, another time).
Anyhow, the food at the Wawa Goose Bar & Grill was, in a word, amazing. Actually the best food we’ve had in our ‘one month so far’ journey away from home. We ordered the 1/2 Chicken Dinner & the Half Rack of Ribs, each of which came with “your choice of 2 sides” (which actually came ‘on the plate’ & not ‘on the side’. We both coincidently ordered the same sides (a Caesar salad & fries). We shared the juicy & meaty ribs (probably 5 or so each!) & we cut the chicken in half too. Both were done in a similarly delicious sauce. The meals were plentiful and very tasty. The ‘sides’ were also delicious as both were crunchy. Wow! Those fries!!! The service was excellent. Thank you Kathleen.
The place was very busy, especially for a Tuesday night! The location is great. Lots of parking - and the inside, well, I mean; I fell in love with the place when I saw the carved coffee tables in the entrance way (see my pictures). The actual bar was oval, large and central, well lit and well stocked. There was a large screen featuring choice music from Spotify and related informational screenshots. Other larger screens around the perimeter featured the Blue Jays / Astros Baseball Game whilst others showed other sports and topics of interest. My love of Western cowboy Metal Art was featured around various booth locations and the taxidermy was almost as eye-opening as a large Bass-Pro Outlet! Impressive and eye catching, as was the large bricked fireplace and numerous other keepsakes and antiques. As good as the food was, I found myself distracted by all of the wonderful surroundings. I’ll be sure to stop by again on next years’ West to East & ‘back-again’...
Read moreThis restaurant should be avoided at all costs. My son and I came in for dinner in February from a day sledding, and ordered the steak. First the steak was expensive, over 40$, but completly inedible. It was dry and like leather. It turns out it had been cooked from being frozen, a total no no when cooking meat. This should never happen at any restaurant.
The staff admitted that this was what was being done. Everyone ordering a steak was essentially being scammed...and paying through the teeth for the privilege.
The staff gave us the owner's name and phone number. I followed it up and left several messages, thinking he would admit the obvious and give us our money back.
He never responded.
Wawa doesnt need unscrupulous restauranteurs...it damages the whole town's tourist reputation and we found out is resented by other operators who try to do well with their customers.
In the end, given the lack of owner concern, I felt we were had and even predated upon.
Cooking a steak from frozen...it needs to first be thawed.. is forseeably ruining the meat and taking a health risk. The expensive steak was reduced to dry leather without a semblance of moisture. That an owner would do this to his customers is reprehensible.
Unbelivably this was not the only reprehensible owner conduct. I suggested to the staff that I didnt want to pay for the steak. However I was told by staff that the cost of the meal would come out of their pay!!! I was not prepared to see the wait staff penalized for the decision of the owner and I did pay, thinking that the owner woild make things right if I contacted him. As mentioned, he never responded to my call.
I was later told by our hotel that he would not likely respond. The owner seems to have a poor reputation in town.
So to sum up..this restaurant is as horrible to its own staff as it is to its customers who it rips off with shoddy food handling practices. Reprehensible, disgusting, unfair, reckless, cruel...pick your adjective, but we will never...
Read moreI was passing through omw to my new military posting in Borden. I've been travelling for days with my family and Wawa is where we chose to lay our heads for the night. We decided to order food from this restaurant. The restaurant and bar atmosphere were very nice. Staff were friendly enough, if you could get their attention anyway. My wife called in a take out order and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived early, noted it was quite busy, and decided to order a drink while I waited and sat at the bar. I initially asked to pay for my food and wait but the waitress was busy and never came back after she served me my beverage. After the 25 minutes was up, I asked another waitress about my order, she proceeded to go wait her tables and didn't let me know about my order, I don't think she even checked for me. I waited some more time, finished my drink, and asked another waitress about my order and got the same cold shoulder. I've worked in the restaurant industry before, for years, and I've never experienced lack of service like I did this evening, it was like I was bothering the staff asking about my food order. After over 45 minutes of waiting with no answers I asked to pay for my drink and leave. I understand being busy and being understaffed, but as the restaurant emptied and it wasn't busy anymore, nobody seemed interested in telling me if my food was being made or when it would be ready. When I asked to just pay for my drink because I wanted to leave, I was left again for a while before the waitress came back and said it wasn't ready and couldn't tell me how much longer it would be. I paid for my drink and left very disappointed. I won't be back if I'm ever...
