Disappointing. We were excited to have an alternative to the winery restaurants in the neighborhood and stopped by right after they opened. It was super crowded and we didn't go back until now when we had company visiting who really like smoked pulled pork. Restaurant wasn't as nearly busy as the first time but as soon as we got there at 6:30, we were told they were out of several menu items (mind you the menu is not very extensive.) Then as we started to order cider and beer and we were told several choices we picked on the menu were no longer available. As others mentioned, it is an odd system where you order your food at the counter (and pay there) but your drinks at the table. Service was not particularly quick or cheery. Presentation of food is less attractive than the high school cafeteria - our 4 sandwiches came on wax paper plopped right on top of a plastic cafeteria tray with pickled vegetables slopped on the side right on the paper. We were given ceramic plates but they were barely large enough to contain the sandwiches let alone adding any sides on your plate. The $18 queso dip (nothing special) was in a cardboard container along with some tortilla chips on the side. A sit down restaurant serving like take-out. The mac and cheese was the same and lukewarm. When we requested it hot, it came back hot but drier (not gooey like great mac and cheese). Flavor was OK, but not anything special and $13 for the small box. The pulled pork and beef brisket sandwiches were served on a cold bun (seemed not even room temp but chilled). The brisket nestled in a huge bed of coleslaw - so the net effect was a cold sandwich, not what I expected. I found the brisket meat on its own was a bit dry so maybe the need for so much coleslaw. The sausages had good flavor but were dry. The maple butter for the cornbread lacked any discernible maple flavor. Didn't try the $8 baked beans our friend ordered but noticed he didn't eat much of them - they looked dry. Overall, it was mediocre BBQ.
Beers were good enough but there are better brews in Kelowna. Setting is cute. And given the overall quality of the food, presentation and service for the price, we aren't going to be...
Read moreI recently visited The Hatching Post in West Kelowna, and it was an absolute delight! This saloon-style brewery and smokehouse on Boucherie Road is a gem that transports you to the Old West with its rustic charm and lively atmosphere. The moment you step through the swinging doors, the clinking glasses, country music, and mouthwatering aroma of BBQ set the stage for a memorable experience. The food is the star of the show. Their Texas-style BBQ, smoked low and slow over fruit woods, is some of the best I’ve had in the Okanagan. I tried the brisket, which was tender with perfectly crispy ends, and the pulled pork, which was juicy and packed with flavor. The smoked yams were a revelation—sweet, smoky, and a perfect complement to the meats. The mac and cheese was creamy and indulgent, and the cornbread with maple butter was a sweet, comforting treat. Portions are generous, though I did hear one reviewer mention a smaller brisket portion once, but my experience was nothing short of satisfying. The in-house brewed beers are equally impressive, with 14 taps offering everything from crisp lagers to bold IPAs. I enjoyed their juicy American IPA, which had a refreshing hoppy kick that paired beautifully with the BBQ. The seasonal beer options keep things exciting, and they also have ciders, wines, and non-alcoholic drinks for variety. Happy Hour from 3:00-6:00 PM Monday to Friday is a great time to sample their brews at a discount. Service was top-notch—friendly, engaging, and quick, even during a busy evening. The staff, including a server named Hunter mentioned in reviews, made us feel right at home. The unique ordering style (slightly different from typical restaurants) was fun and easy to navigate with their guidance. The saloon’s vibe is lively yet welcoming, with fun touches like trivia nights on Mondays and a patio for sunny days. Overall, The Hatching Post is a must-visit for BBQ lovers and craft beer enthusiasts. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot delivers great food, fantastic drinks, and an unforgettable experience. I’ll be back to try more of their...
Read moreReally disappointing experience here tonight, I’ve eaten here before with my parents and was so excited to bring my Fiancé here to try it but once we were seated it took almost 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us and bring over some waters. The girl who brought the waters over wasn’t our server but she was kind enough to take our drink order. The young man that was serving us in the section up above the rest of the restaurant had still not even acknowledged us at this point. Once he noticed the young lady had brought us waters he said we were “next on his to do list” but then proceeded to bill out a 12 top and bring jugs of water and glasses to a large party that had just been seated behind us. We thought maybe once he dropped the waters off he would come check in on us but instead he went over to another 2 top that had just been seated and took their drink orders; then took the large parties drink orders and then came over and asked if “that blond girl got drinks started?” When we said yes he immediately walked away without saying anything else. We waited another almost 10 minutes for drinks to be brought up to us by another young woman who also wasn’t our server and at that point we were really frustrated with our experience so we just asked for our bill and left. Overall super dissatisfied and feeling really embarrassed that I had raved so highly about this place to my fiancé before hand. We are now sitting in the McDonald’s drive though and have so far received far better service here than he got from the young man serving our...
