Our second visit to Vino Italian Restaurant was overshadowed by a simple yet significant mistake — a wrong order. My wife ordered chicken marsala, but chicken Milanese was brought out instead. Despite two others at our table confirming my wife ordered chicken marsala, the server hesitated to correct the mistake, insisting that my wife had ordered the Milanese and even suggested she keep it because the marsala would take 20 minutes to prepare.
When my wife politely insisted on what she had ordered, the server returned minutes later with a troubling response: the chef would prepare the marsala, but they wouldn’t comp the Milanese. This led to an awkward silence at our table. I asked to speak with the chef, but the server seemed terrified at the thought, hinting at a volatile personality in the kitchen.
Eventually, the hostess/owner brought out the correct dish, explaining that they had an order already in progress. The server subsequently commented to us, “They’re discussing it in the kitchen” suggesting there was a debate about whether to charge us for their error.
When the bill came, there was no apology — just the Milanese in a to-go box and a charge for it on our bill. I questioned whether the kitchen discussion had led to any resolution, only to have the server take the box away without explanation. Shortly after, the hostess/owner returned, trying to guilt trip my wife, claiming the server would now pay for the meal and insisting it was my wife's fault because "my staff are trained to repeat the order back" (she did not and two people at our table confirmed this). This attempt to gaslight my wife was disappointing and unprofessional.
It’s astonishing how such a minor error was handled so poorly. We were made to feel at fault for a mistake we didn’t make.
I've never experienced such short-sighted and narrow-minded business owners before. This was truly a first.
We have told quite a few people about how much we enjoyed our first experience at Vino Italian Restaurant in West Kelowna.
You can bet we're going to tell 10x as many about this experience, starting with posting this review in as many...
Read moreStaff were friendly.. That was the best of the night!. Don't ask for any substitutions, the chef will not allow it, so this is not your place if you have dietary requirements. My linguini blu dish was bland to the extreme, might as well of been pasta in butter. My wife had the pasta with lobster rose sauce. Again.. tasted like a basic rose sauce, probably no lobster was ever within 100 foot of it! Other dishes were ok but uninspiring and bland. I wonder if some of the other reviewers that espouse traditional Italian fayre have even been in Europe, never mind Italy. I have quite a few times and eaten in various regions down the peninsular, pretty much every place , the flavours were far superior there, and fresher. There were only 3 or 4 other tables but we were still waiting quite considerably for our meals. This was the only winery attached restaurant that we could get at short notice.... now we know why!
Saturday night, waited an hour for insipid food......no wonder...
Read moreFood was okay but very expensive. Mine was not a creamy sauce but more like a complete butter sauce. New waitress came over to pick up one item at a time on our table and interrupted us from having conversation the whole night. When my pasta came I asked if I could get some cheese on it as it was not quite salty enough and they brought a small bowl of which I used 1 teaspoon. Then the bill came and I was charged over my $30 for a pasta dish another $3.50. When I inquired about it the owner lady came over and told me in a snarky way “well when you ask for cheese on your burger you pay extra”. I am Italian and have never paid extra to have parmigiana cheese on my pasta. We were with another couple and her attitude shocked all of us. We will never return as I will give my hard earned money to someone that speaks kindly to the customers and...
