Le Train Restaurant — Restaurant in West Nipissing

This is not our first time at this place. Their food is good. We stopped in today for lunch, there were only two places left, popular place. I believe the restaurant is an old railway car, so it is long and narrow.. but it works.

Hubby had his go to meal a club house. He said it was great.. nice fresh cut fries.

I decided to try a Buddah bowl... I saw a few people sitting around us had it You get to create your own. Choose romainr, mixed greens, iceberg or rice, add veggies, protein (hamburger, chicken, steak or chick peas) add mixed nuts and dressing of your choice. There were a few other options with added charges.

The combo I chose was iceberg with tomatoes, cukes, mushrooms, and pickled cabbage. Steak for protein, mixed nuts and a garlic dressing. The bowl was a good size. When the waitress brought my bowl, it had what looked like a chopped up hamburger patty. I said, I ordered the steak.. she said that is our steak, I think they call it a minute steak - I call it a hamburger pattie!! I ate it anyway.. I tried the picked cabbage.. not my thing!! I was expecting a sauerkraut type cabbage.. that is not what was on my bowl.. whatever, I was able to move it over. The mushrooms were the killer!!! Cold canned mushrooms!! We stopped here for lunch last weekend as we were passing through. Our server was polite and friendly, but once we received our order she never came back. I noticed this was a trend throughout the restaurant. I ordered the fish & chips which came with a side of coleslaw. There was definitely potential for the food to be good, but it wasn't. I was enjoying the coleslaw...till I found a hair in it 😕 The fries were overcooked and dry as was my fish. You could see immediately by the dark exterior, but they chose to serve it anyway. My spouse ordered a hamburger and fries. Same issue with the fries, but said the burger was good. Would have been better with a drink, but couldn't get anyone to come back to our table. Do not order the fish! Even after peeling off the overcooked exterior it still tasted awful. Waste of time and money. Should have just got nugs & fries from McD's. As we were preparing to leave we could see the 2 young girls goofing around dancing and singing in the kitchen. I go to Sturgeon Falls maybe once a month to help with my wife's business, and we live in North Bay. We were repeat customers to this restaurant, mainly for breakfast. Today they were busy as usual, but we never expected this terrible service: it took more than 40 minutes to get our order. We got coffee refill and when we asked about our order, we did not receive any straight answer, other than it's on its way. After a third time questioning, we got the following: the cook ran out of his pre-cooked bacon and he was starting another batch from scratch. This vague explanation did not go over well with us, and we were rudely told we could cancel or even leave if we wanted. We were concerned about not being told earlier, to possibly substitute our order and how our meal would be presented, and other tables got their orders before ours.
