Edit* The waitress I had difficulties with before redeemed herself tonight. She did a great job! Came and sat down for dinner. Such good food here.
I want to give this place 5 stars, but I can't. Not after tonight's experience.
First, let me start by saying that their food is excellent! I've only been there twice. Last Saturday for dine in and tonight for take out.
Last week was an excellent experience. The server I had was great and my food was fantastic. I had the pork bulgogi and one of their most expensive sushi rolls. Absolutely no complaints. So I was really looking forward to tonight.
I've been working all day. I am in filthy clothing. I am tired and was hungry. So I figured I could run in and get a quick order for takeout. I ordered the same pork bulgogi, which to be fair, is a very simple quick stir fry dish and the spicy tuna roll. A simple sushi roll consisting of one piece of fish and a sauce drizzled on top. An order that should have taken 15 mins tops.
I was told it would be about 35 minutes since they were a little busy. Fair enough. I took a seat up by the front door on a rather uncomfortable bench. Feeling awkward as again, I was filthy and it's Friday night and people are coming in to sit down all well dressed for the evening.
I waited 50 mins and still no food. When I saw a table of four get their food first, I went up to the back counter to find out what was happening. They had come inside to sit down 15 minutes after I ordered and were already eating.
When I asked for my food, the server who was not the same one I had the week before started to argue with me and become very defensive. My food was sitting on the counter, very obviously sitting for a while. I pointed out the fact that it was sitting there and she says "Well, it's still hot." Which, it wasn't. I got home, about a 5 minute drive away and found my food to be quite cold. And the sushi roll had no ginger or wasabi. My favorite components to any sushi to be honest.
I had even prepaid and tipped the server, so I did not appreciate being forgotten about or her being so defensive. A simple apology would have sufficed. In fact, one of the sushi chefs overheard the conversation and very humbly apologized to me. It is because of him that I will give them another chance.
I will most definitely go back for another try. However, if I get that same lady I had tonight, I will not stay. My hope is to have the first server. She is great, and I watched her with her customers tonight. She is very good at her job.
Their food is good and I'd like them to earn their 5 stars. We will see you next weekend. Hopefully the service...
Read moreSure, it's the best sushi in Wetaskiwin, and sure, it punches above it's weight class. My family have been here a number of times, and the quality ranges from fine to good.
Today my wife and my mother decided we should go there. Fearing it'd be busy on Mother's Day, we called ahead. They said they weren't busy, and they were right. The place was empty when we arrived. Despite this, it took a full 10 minutes for anyone to service our table, despite there CLEARLY being over 5 on-duty staff in the business. Eventually we ordered water, and eventually it came. Eventually a server took our meal orders.
This isn't a review about the food itself, it's a review of the business being empty on a Sunday with tons of staff available to help us and none of them deciding to do so. When we were leaving, the server eventually asked if we were paying by card, and we said yes. The server responded by saying they couldn't bring the card with them to our table, so we'd have to pay up front. When we went to pay, the staff had no idea what we were doing there and asked if we ordered pickup. WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE STORE. They had a clear line of site to us. They knew we were here, but clearly didn't understand why. Our server ran away to the back and never came back out after we got up to pay, so, like, one of the chef's processed our bill payment, I guess?
Again, this is not a review of the food at this establishment. It's a review of the service, which is less than acceptable. If there were any other remotely acceptable restaurants in Wetaskiwin besides Huckleberry's (on occasion), we would've most likely sought them out.
And from what I could tell, the machine forces you to tip 15%, 20%, 0r 25%, which seems totally worth it in this situation. #hypersarcasm
That being said, this review will not change anyone's choice about the restaurant. They basically have a monopoly on quality in the town, and...
Read moreSo food was amazing our server how ever was horrible... asked for plates and didn't receive any had to use our appetizer plates, than one of our desserts tasted off like old and she insisted it shouldn't they "just got the shipment monday" I said I didn't want it and my 10yr had commented on the old flavour as well... so our bill comes and it's full price for the old tasting dessert we had one bite each of... so I commented that they could have done at least half price and she said she could ask again but because the shipment was Monday it wasnt old ... I just proceeded to pay as she was irritating me and that would have been that, except this waitress continued to press the issue about asking again etc I told her firmly I just paid and she's only making it worse... few word exchanges nothing offensive, as of yet, I repeated she is making it worse again and should stop talking.. and her silly comment to which was the last straw was "I feel like you are going to go home and RANT and Rave" LMFAO so yes hunny! I wasn't actually until you decided to make a completely ridiculous comment and we would have returned considering the times we have been there we pay over $65 etc and enjoy the food 15% tip... but not now. please dont be in the customer service industry if your brain cannot keep up with your mouth. Hope you enjoyed the 2% tip because even that...
