My husband and I have had a lot of Thai food in the past, and Thai on Brock has the best Thai food we've ever had. We ended up there by accident, and we feel like the stars aligned that night for us to experience the best Thai food. We were going to a movie that night, and we were already cutting it close - having a sit down dinner, and making it to our movie on time. We went to a different Thai food restaurant that we had been to before, in which we've had good experiences but also mediocre, but we were determined to give them another chance. We pulled up, and the sign on the door said, "Take out, only". We were disappointed and stressed because we didn't have a lot of time, and we were really craving Thai food. We did a google search of Thai restaurants near us, and one came up saying, "Whitby's best Thai food". We were about to go there, but decided to read the reviews and look at the pictures, and we were glad we did, because there were a lot of bad reviews. Then Thai on Brock came up, and it was close, and the photos of all the reviewers' meals looked really good, as well as strong reviews about it being amazing. I should also mention that my husband is celiac (Gluten allergy), which makes it very difficult for us to eat out. I called them to ask whether they had any gluten free items on the menu, and the woman was so knowledgeable about celiac, and she said they'd take care of us. We got there and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. She answered all of our questions, and made sure to check with the chef on any gluten questions we had. We ordered the mango salad, which was so fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the pad thai with chicken, and it was so flavorful and delicious. My husband ordered the green curry with chicken, and it was so creamy, flavorful and fabulous. It is difficult for my husband and I to go out to restaurants because of his allergy, and so to have such a wonderful experience was amazing. The food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and if they were unsure of something, they checked with the chef. We had a delicious dinner and made it to our...
Read morePSA: this is not authentic Thai. I hate to leave a restaurant a negative review but this is for all the reviewers who led me astray talking about "this is authentic Thai" or "the food was as good or better than what I've had in Toronto or Markham etc". Please, PLEASE go try Pai, Khao San Road or Koh Lipe and then come back and delete your reviews so people like me don't have expectations and waste their time/money.
There were positives but starting with what should be two easy staples:
Do NOT. I repeat. DO NOT GET THE PAD THAI. Pro tip from an Asian and someone who's travelled all throughout thailand ... pad thai should never be red/orange. It should be a light brown/beige which is a result of tamarind if they're making it right. For here, I suspect they put ketchup or something similar in it. It really wasn't good and had a jarring aftertaste. Second pro tip: it's not authentic if they don't have prik nam pla which is a condiment with things like chillies, garlic and fish sauce. This is such a staple that I really should've known what I was getting myself into when they said they only have Siracha.
Positives were the crispy beef and the pad gra prow. Enjoyable in comparison though I wouldn't get either again. Saw some comments saying these were spicy and they definitely weren't, though I understand people have diverse palettes. The lady at the front desk was friendly though and I'll say the prices were fair for the portions. Food was ready right on time and I had no difficulties...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Thai on Brock, and I can honestly say it was one of the best food experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with such warmth and friendliness that it immediately set the tone for the evening. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish we tried was bursting with fresh flavor and beautifully presented. The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet like you find in some places, and the portion size was generous. The curries had such depth of flavor, with the perfect amount of spice and creaminess. You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, offered great recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. What I really appreciated was that the entire experience felt authentic yet approachable. Whether you’re new to Thai food or a longtime fan, there’s something on the menu for everyone. Overall, Thai on Brock is a true gem, fantastic food, great atmosphere, and wonderful service. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable...
