I’ve been wanting to eat here for the longest time and I finally got to try last night.
Service 5/5 - especially by the lady server was excellent. She was friendly, and attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and they added a candle to the slice of cake we ordered, that was a sweet and thoughtful gesture. She also sang! Super sweet.
Food quantity 5/5 huge portions that positively surprised us. Value for your money when it comes to portion size. We’ll never find such huge portions in other Toronto fine dining restaurants and this is definitely a plus.
Atmosphere 5/5 casual cozy. Chairs were comfortable enough, tables were spaced well. Lighting was good.
Quality of food 4/5 pretty good for a restaurant in a small town like Stoufville. If I lived here, it would be my go to restaurant. But I’ve eaten in many restaurants serving the same dishes so I feel like it could definitely improve and be a 5/5,
The grilled calamari appetizer - good portions, good flavour, delicious but the calamari itself was overcooked. Half of it just passed the rubbery stage and the other half was full blown rubbery. I mentioned this to the server but no rectifying effort was made so we decided to chew slowly on the rest of the calamari anyway, soaking each piece in the delicious sauce. Somehow all O&B restaurants always cook their calamari right, always tender.
Spanish rice - huge portions with more than enough seafood to delight anyone. King prawns were also overcooked but this time the calamari and the scallops were cooked well. Flavour was ok, not bad but not the best Spanish rice I’ve had and I’ve tried many.
Chocolate cake - pretty good. They said that everything on the menu is baked or cooked in-house except for the ice cream. The portion size was just right, a slim slice.
Overall, it is...
Read moreI meant to meet a former colleague here but due to the weather conditions he was unable to make it in time so I had to come in solo (We've been meaning to try it for a while between the two of us. We call it the Gucci wine bar haha)
Quite honestly, I only came here on my way home from Montreal for a light dinner but due to the fact I didn't have time to wait for my colleague, I ended up eating their complimentary bread which came with a delicious mustard based sauce. The highlight of my Admittedly light meal was fish tacos! (shrimp) and quite honestly they were the best shrimp tacos of my life. Absolutely astounding I unfortunately suffered a traumatic brain injury earlier in the year and was unable to try any of the wine, but quite honestly these guys seem to know what they're doing if they're wine and spirit selection, is anything like the food I can say with confidence it is most likely going to be amazing. Although I will warn you, it's not the cheapest place to eat in Stouffville. (Although it's much better than the fishbone in terms of food quality to cost ratio) in conclusion, the only complaint I can imagine giving to this place is the fact that when they offered me water they gave me the three options of tap, sparkling water, and finally flat water. (6$) Me being a small small town local who only fine dines on special occasions (on dates and with my family) I expected all the options to be free. Although I was slightly disappointed that I had to pay the $6 for a 750 ml glass bottle of spring water I did get to keep the bottle which I reused a few times and even washed in my sink. So who am I to complain when in the end I got my...
Read moreAgi is pretty much the only contender for decent fine dining in Stouffville. I live five minutes away and have been twice, and will go again. That being said I probably would not drive out of my way if I lived in Markham or further south. I’ve had the calamari, Brussels sprouts, mussels, ahi tuna, whole sea bass, and seafood linguine. Nothing revolutionary in terms of flavour combinations, but good solid cooking. I’m not trying to damn by faint praise - there are very few fine dining establishments I would make a point of visiting in Toronto these days. The service is wonderful and the decor lovely, although it is small and does get very loud during full occupancy, so much so that I would avoid going on the weekend. It was much more enjoyable on the Wednesday night when there were only a few other diners. If you live in Stouffville I would highly suggest giving this restaurant a try. Update: I went back recently and had a different selection of dishes, all of which I enjoyed more than the ones I had had at the time of the original review. Increased the rating to 5 stars. Judicious ordering is always necessary to have the best experience at a restaurant. This time I had the deep fried goats cheese which was honestly a stand out dish. The elements of the crispy goats cheese, finely sliced, crisp apple, walnut and sauce quantity created a synergistic effect. My boyfriend had the rack of lamb, which was delicious, but the stand out item on the plate was actually the potatoes! Perfectly crisp skin completely surrounded a velvety, almost mashed-consistency mini-potato. I had the octopus special, which was also quite...
