We've wanted to try this place on word of mouth, and finally did - on an impulse. There's something about a family-owned resto that should ensure a more vested, and personal interest in satisfied diners. Our visit to Pastaggio bolstered this belief. We hadn't planned on being there and weren't at all dressed for an upscale and hip dining room. It didn't matter. We were greeted, welcomed, treated well and catered to with genuine red-blooded warmth and hospitality. Not the typical front-of-house pro full of larceny and embalming fluid. While many of the menu items were the comforting bread-and-butter Italian fare, there were many fun alternatives - and that's what we ordered. the Barese sausage on skewers were not only so damned cute, but incredibly flavorful, served on a bed of arugula with well-paired red-wne vinaigrette. The meatballs (in soft grilled egg-bread) sliders were succulent - not the dry, shriveled variety, the bane of every holiday get-together. You could taste the milk that the bread had been soaked in, and every bite elicited an embarrassing moan. The creamy, garlicky and house-made Caesar salad had just enough anchovy, not more. In fact, the apps disappeared so quickly it's difficult to remember our 3rd shared dish. Intent on trying the pasta we ordered the Pasta ala Vodka. This is an iconic dish with bacon and rose sauce squirting out of each and every perfectly cooked tube of penne. It's not enough to write up places when they mess up. Pastaggio is the best reasturant in Stouffville. This family friendly reasturant has a variety of meals to choose from. I particularly love the spaghetti and meatballs. My husband always orders the lamb and is never disappointed. The appetizers are awesome and the wine selection will accommodate all palates. You can book the reasturant for parties and even small weddings. When you do not feel like going out to eat, you can order take out. The prices are great and the portions are large.
