I am writing this review to express my sincere disappointment with Nonno Crupiâs Pizza. Needless to say, Nonno Crupi, or the founder of this family-run business, would be beside themselves with how this business is currently being operated.
As a long time patron of this establishment, with reasonable quality pizza that is close to home, I have been witness to the ongoing decline in customer service, but still wished to continue to support this local business to maintain a sense of community; this will no longer be the case.
I had simply requested to have pizza dough stretched and placed into a pizza box uncooked. I had done so on separate occasions, without issue, and happily paid what the owner charged. On no occasion did he, or anyone at Nonno Crupiâs, indicate that this was not something they normally do or even suggest that this was a one-off situation. In fact, I have previously done the same at numerous other establishments in Aurora and Stouffville (both chain and family-owned) without issue.
This past Saturday, I placed an order, and was advised that they could not accommodate because of low supply, so I simply went to Nino DâAversa in Aurora (as I have done on several occasons) who were more than happy to oblige.
On Sunday I called Nonno Crupiâs with a request for 8 stretched and well- floured doughs and I was told that it wouldnât be an issue. I was advised that they need 30 minutes notice and I told them I would be calling back in an hour to provide that notice. When I did call I was informed the dough was already ready for pickup; having already been prepared but sitting for close to an hour. The doughs were not well floured at all, and since they had been sitting for such a while they were completely stuck to the paper the were wrapped in. I was only able to use 4 of 8 doughs, the rest were un-usable as they were not prepared properly. I called to speak to the owner to voice my complaint (using a normal tone) where I was met with yelling and him telling me that he was âdoing me a favourâ, and did not want my business any further. He promptly thereafter hung up on me.
I proceeded to Nonno Crupiâs, obviously upset by this very unbusinesslike behaviour, to express disappointment and return my unused dough. I was yet again told that he was doing me a favour; which is illogical as he willingly provided a product/service that I PAID for. He also advised me, that the day prior, they could have provided the dough for me but basically did not want to; confirming his lie. When I told him that I was an Italian-Canadian who understands the origins of a clearly, at least originally, Italian-Canadian owned business he promptly said my comment was racist; again another ignorant and completely illogical comment lacking of any foundation. He was lastly, quite quick to advise me, that I have no business sense despite the fact that he does not know the slightest thing about me other than my first name.
A quick survey of his other negative reviews clearly reflects his very unbusinesslike behaviour. The old tenet of âthe customer is always rightâ means nothing to this owner. A negative comment is not met with self-reflection upon himself or his business, but with a harsh shaming of the customer and the very inappropriate âI donât want your business anymoreâ.
Nonno Crupiâs lacks the family-run small community etiquette, has lost the business sense that has made it survive for over 30 years, and its personality is simply gone. The owner simply wants your business, but does not care in the slightest to show his appreciation.
The only positive vibe one gets is from the ownerâs wife. She is the only one to greet you with a smile and actually seems to appreciate your business. The rest of the employees couldn't care less.
Nonetheless, I still expect the owner to reply to this factual review with a berating commentary which, again, is a simple reflection of his ignorance and lack of business-like etiquette.
Nonno Crupiâs has forever lost...
Read moreHave been wanting to come here for so long as itâs been on my list. Wanted to be different and got a calzone and added a couple slices for my kids to try after school.
The calzone was actually cooked so nicely. Crust was soft and not super doughy. Fillings were there, but do wish they added just a bit more.
Pizza was great from what the kids said. The Lee was ample amount of toppings and itâs a huge slice so itâs cut into two pieces. The top of the pizza was perfect with the sauce blending nicely with the dough. The bottoms of the pizza was charred nicely but a little too crisp.
However, it is definitely a spot you have to stop by when going up this way. Probably best as well for a quick stop when going through to cottage country on the northeast side.
Parking was enough as i went midweek and there wasnât a lot of people at the time. They have a few spots on one side but there is an unpacked shoulder that seems to have some people park on as well.
For those nice summer days coming up, they have outdoor seating available as well. The inside is like an old school Italian eatery. Really gives off that nostslgic feel.
Service was great. Got my order quickly and received my order before the time was up. Was waiting outside since it was such a nice day and the girl actually brought my order out to me when it was done. Very...
Read moreI cannot tell you how happy Nonno Crupi's Pizza makes me!
When I moved to Stouffville from Toronto, my biggest fear was I would not find a decent Pizza place. Initially this was true, but eventually I stumbled upon Nonno Crupi's and my Pizza salvation!
As a lifelong Pizza aficionado, I've generally eaten Pizza 1-2 times a week for the past 40+ years. As a result, I'm pretty resolute about what it is that makes good vs bad Pizza. Let me assure you that Nonno Crupi's checks all the right boxes!
Crust is full without being too heavy or bready with just the proper amount of charring, the sauce has the right amount of tang without being too sweet or acidic and the toppings are all excellent quality. Best of all, they don't skimp on the cheese!
Then there's the prices. Talk about great value on top of a great pie! You can spend almost twice as much at a chain places in town for Pizza only half as good as Nonno Crupi's.
The Calzones are equally exciting with loads of whatever toppings you choose. I haven't tried the Veal sandwiches yet, but it's on my to do list and I can't wait as I've heard great things about them.
Keep up the...
