edit This time service was fantastic. We were a larger group of 8 with a server that didn't miss a beat. Everyone was happy with their food. The pizza was still soggy in the middle. Everything else was very good The bartender made a fantastic virgin drink for me. I often find they just come up with a plain sweet soda with a bit of flavoring. This one came up with something a bit more inventive. Tip: They are part of the no straw movement however, so be aware... No straws. We found it helpful to order drinks with half the ice to make it easier to sip from the glass.
I came into this restaurant with high expectations because I have had friends speak well of it. Service was a mix of excellent to mediocre. Our primary server was excellent. The support staff was a bit lacking. For a place that bills itself as family style, they didn't offer any utensils to share most of the time. When it was our primary server he did give us an extra spoon, but when it was the support staff, we were on our own. There are other examples, but I won't list it all. Maybe it is because they are new and still training? The atmosphere is beautiful. They did a beautiful job renovating. It is very comfortable to sit in and the ambiance is terrific. I thought the food was good, but there wasn't very much that I felt I had to come back for. We haven't tried all the menu items yet, but we had a sampling to try to cover the bases. We did not have the charcuterie or cheeses so we might need to return. Items were pricey. In Winnipeg its a tough market because you can find good food for good prices. The pollo pizza was good. The middle (point) was a touch soggy and didn't hold up well. The rest of it was good. I had a similar crust in Omaha recently which didn't have this problem. The toppings on it paired well. The lamb shank... the lamb flavoring was very muted. I didn't get a lot of flavor from the braising, though the accompaniments had a lot of flavor. So long as you eat it together its fine. Green beans were very good in my eyes, but my companions thought they were mediocre. I believe everyone enjoyed the rabbit gnocchi. I would have liked it more in a pesto sauce, but the only option was tomato based. That is a personal preference though, and I can recognize that this dish was done well. The octopus dish we had reminded me of a korean dish, but elevated... due to the sauce. The base red sauce had a korean flavor, but with the celery and lemon it did make it more complex. It was an interesting dish, and if you like that kind of flavoring this will be perfect for you. It looked like they had tea from Cornelia Bean which is nice. For dessert we tried the tiramisu (Well only one person in our party wanted it, I had an allergy and the other 2 didn't like coffee.) He said he enjoyed it. The other dessert was the ricotta donuts. I didn't taste ricotta, but the donuts themselves were pretty tasty and done well. I'll go back to get a better idea of the rest of the menu and see if the service improves with time. I think it has the...
Read moreWe were there for. A family’s despedida and we had a wonderful time. We had a reservation for 7pm and the restaurant was bumping. We got the tasting menu(7 course) and a bottle of Riesling.
The evening started with a delightful Riesling and some smoked olives from their wood fired oven. The olives were nicely seasoned and not overly salty, you can actually taste the differences from all the olives.
Next came a grilled local sourdough bread and house fermented whipped butter. It just warms your heart to have all those simple flavours and textures put together. Then came along freshly sliced cured meat(forgive me I forgot what it is called). It was creamy, flavourful and just mildly salted. Fresh Pecorino was grated on top and breadsticks to accompany the delicate flavours.
Next up was Tuna Crudo that cam with Aioli, Chili crisp, Squid ink tapioca cracker and the citrus supremes. Everything was deliciuos except the tapioca cracker. The dish would have really worked with out the cracker.
Then came the pasta(house made in the shape of the roosters cockles)It was with a pomodorro lamb stew and freshly grated cheese. It was delish! Pasta was al dente and the sauce was just right…it hit the spot.
By this time we were ready to tap out but next came the steak. It was an 8oz steak cooked to perfection(medium rare)on top of a cheesy-creamy polenta; topped off with fresh arugula and scalded cherry tomatoes. Devine!!
Finally, Dessert and espresso. I wasn’t really a big fan of it but it was light, Flourless(I believe) chocolate cake with mouse, caramel sauce and a sprinkle of different seeds.
Oh almost forgot the very refreshing Ice cold peroni that I ordered after the past dish, it was just the perfect cleanse before our steak dish.
Harth never disappoints! Our server was amazing(older gentleman with glasses and loved it when I commented “no cappuccino after 11am” to my wife.)
*I just found it a bit too loud in our area that we trying to speak over the table beside us. Not a deal breaker though. We will...
Read moreIf I was in one of the Godfather movies or moulin rouge or those places in a movie with a wonderful retro vibe, a pleasant soft chatter noise and beautifully lit place -This would be it. They have that open kitchen with a dome oven centerpiece that sets such a great atmosphere for that place. The stone facade outside and black with wood lined walls and booth that feels so very comfortable and natural is a very nice choice.
With the popularity of those ASMR videos but I will ask you to imagine you get to see a nicely lit place open kitchen where they are stretching pizza dough and making those amazing pizzas and slicing their cured meat and truffle and stuff on that wonderful automatic heavy duty shiny slicer. You can just sit there with a drink in hand and see them do their work.
Coming to their food - It's really a wholesome meal made fresh and well as you order with the right and good ingredients. We got their house made foccacia and it was what a foccacia should be - soft and airy with a crust that can soak the wonderful balsamic and olive oil and we followed it with a wonderful pizza that was soft and chewy and delectable. Our mains were a nice fettucine with duck confit and a lamb shank with marinara and polenta. The food was tasty and brilliantly made, perfect temp, perfect seasoning and delectably buttery. Very very nice 10/10 would recommend.
As for our drinks the wine selection is amazing - but we are not wine aficionados or connoisseurs and we went for a tried and trusted rose and a nice whisky cocktail. All their drink selections were amazing and would definitely try more.
We waited on by a great stewardess and they were really good with their recommendations as well as listening to our banter and sharing some of theirs and accommodating all our requests and helping us out with our confusion.
It was a really good evening.
Thank you team at Harth...
