A year after my first review- i am coming back to upgrade my rating. 5 stars for these guys. They're great. The food is fast, fresh and delicious on a consistent basis. Who could ask for more!?
The Riverview Garden Restaurant has just opened in St. Norbert and so we had to try it out. First impressions on flavor and quality were excellent. The service for eat-in clientele lacked polish, however, from a take-out perspective, it's great to have a quality Chinese restaurant in the community. Items ordered: Chicken Fried Rice; Kung Pao Chicken; Pan Fried Shrimp; Cantonese Chow Mein. All items were excellent, but the absolute favourite was the Cantonese Chow Mein (which my husband insists rivals the Redimart in Yellowknife, the best Chow Mein that he's ever had!). Read moreNot recommended at all!! Just tonight, I went to this restaurant with friends. Personally, most of the dishes didn't taste good, and there was a waitress with a terrible attitude. She was talking badly about customers behind their backs, using very foul language. First, regarding the food, from my taste perspective, their dishes were either too salty or too oily. Towards the end, it was even nauseating. The sweet and sour pork tasted not very fresh; the meat inside was dry, possibly over-fried or kept for too long (we arrived around 7 PM). The sauce coating the outside had a very average taste. The large intestine dish was very salty, and the taste of the ingredients itself was exceptionally strong, a bit overwhelming and poorly handled. Some people might find a strong taste more authentic, but personally, I couldn't accept it. I don't have many specific memories of other dishes, but the portion sizes were generally small (the boiling fish had a large pot but only around 10 pieces of fish, and the pieces were not very big).
The service was the most infuriating part today. One female staff member was particularly terrible. While we were still eating, we heard her swearing at customers from the adjacent table for leaving without giving a tip. After we paid and left (we gave a tip, fearing she might swear at us too), a friend wanted to use the restroom. We overheard her again, swearing at us for being uncivilized and spitting some bones onto the table (using very foul language). Firstly, I apologize if we overlooked some details, like leaving food residue on the table. However, does that justify her insulting us and even involving our families? Despite giving a tip, hearing her talk badly about customers behind their backs is really disheartening. After coming a few times, we will never come to this restaurant again. Please reconsider carefully, who knows how they might talk about you behind your...
Read moreInteresting place, we visited recently. Their website indicated they were open till 11:30 pm. We called to double check, it was a little difficult to get a straight answer (that was bit disconcerning), but they informed us they were open till 9:00 pm, so we made an effort to get there before closing. They recommended us to make a reservation. When we arrived, there was only one other table. The food and service was just ok, we were pretty disappointed by the Cantonese Chow Mein. The noodles were not crispy at all, resembled more a lo mein consistency and the whole dish was almost soupy in consistency. We also found the prices significantly more expensive then other Chinese restaurants in the city. Interesting when we left they informed us they were open till 11:00...
