I went there a few weeks ago. I debated on posting this. We went at the begining of the week. We were very disappointed by the quality for the price. I ordered a very expensive lobster dish ($30). I told them I cannot have high carb dish due to health and to please not include the carb filler part which was some potato they put in the brine and bread . Instead of the waitress and kitchen communicating to me that the portion on the dish they could provide would not even be a meal size but instead a snack size half soup bowl of food. I received the smallest portion of food for 30 dollars I have ever seen for that price. There lobster dish was not worth the value at all. I do not eat potato or bread and the kitchen should have adjusted to my health needs portion size or told me it wouldn't be posible to serve that to me as a meal.. The waitress said the portion was so small based on the cost of those meats. Which I disagree with. Shrimp 340 grams ( which I can buy a whole pack at the grocery store for 7 to 10 dollars and scalps which I can buy a whole package also for similar to less. And as for the lobster there was 4 or 5 bite size parts in there.. The dish was like a soup with a few bites of meat in it. Not worth the experience. However the flavor was good. Portion was horrible. Price redicoulous. That dish should not be over 20 dollars based on the value for the full dish . . Another person at my table spilt the same dish with there adult daughter and they received 2 half bowls of the soup mixture but with the potatos in it. Still not a good portion for an expensive meal. . My partner ordered a steak and he said the experience was not good flavor wise. We eat steak daily. When I looked at the steak it looked like it was extremely thin for the high price and it was cooked badly. His vegetables were a watery boiled overcooked mixed veg he did not touch after sampling a bite. And as for the waitress experience she was hard to get ahold of in a timely manner and even to bring the bill My advice to your place of business is better communication, and make recommendations and additions to the order for people with dietary restrictions and cook the food with more precision or CHARGE way less for the lack of quality/ quantity. Thankyou. I don't ever post but it was bad. You can do...
Read moreOn our way through New Brunswick we got this place recommended by our B&B host. Normally this is a valid tip from a local so we went there. Well, normally you should follow your immediate gut feeling and when I saw it was a pub with pub food, we should have walked out. However, after a long day on the road we were hungry and so we stayed and ordered our food from the menu. They offered a meatloaf made with a secret recipe, so I wanted to try. It came with vegetables as side + I could choose from the list of sides and I choose mashed potatoes. The waiter asked if I wanted gravy on top, and I said yes. If you have a good meatloaf from a secret recipe you must have a good gravy too, I thought. My wifey was smarter and chose the smallest burger with sweet potato fries. It didn’t take long before the food arrived and that was the first sign that this was going to be rubbish. The sweet potatoes on my wages plate was over cooked and burnt. The burger was ok, she said, but my plate was the most disgusting mess I’ve seen for a long time outside my own kitchen if I’m alone at home for a week and want to be lazy. There was gravy, thick brown greasy flour based gravy all over. There was some overcooked carrots and green peas on the side, still swimming in the water they been reheated in in the microwave with the rest of the mess. I tried to taste the mashed potatoes with the gravy, but it was inedible. Barely warm An with no taste other that bland lukewarm reheated brown blubber sauce and lumpy dry potato mash. I scraped the gravel from hell of the meatloaf to try this “secret recipe” and got nothing more to my palate than tasteless bland something that could have come from a can of dog food. The waitress was friendly but didn’t care either and I wonder if the chef in this place has any pride in what he is doing because yo can’t call...
Read moreA Truly Unforgettable Experience at The River Restaurant
We recently made the drive from Fredericton to Woodstock for lunch at The River Restaurant, and it was one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had — not just because of the food, but because of the people behind it.
Wes and Cindy Cory, the owners, and their daughter, went above and beyond to make our visit special. We brought our 97-year-old mother along, and they both took the time to sit and chat with her like old friends. Their warmth and kindness were genuine and deeply touching. To our surprise, they even comped our meal — a gesture that speaks volumes about the kind of people they are.
And if that wasn’t enough, Cindy was ready to serenade our mother with a Dean Martin song on her ukulele — a moment we would have treasured forever if the rain hadn’t rolled in. Even without the music, the love and care they showed made our day.
In a world where great service is becoming rare, Wes and Cindy and their daughter, are shining examples of what hospitality should be. We’ll happily make the trip to The River Restaurant again — not just for the beautiful riverside setting and delicious food, but to spend time in the presence of truly beautiful people.
Thank you, Wes and Cindy, and your. Daughter for a day we’ll never forget!
