Beautiful food, some of it very good indeed, but they need to work a bit on consistency.
We went for the prix fixe "Classic Course" for 688 RMB per person, and honestly we did feel we got our money's worth—we left quite stuffed. Still, while none of the food was bad, not every dish was a winner. Our favorite parts of the meal by far were the smaller plates—the appetizer course and the snacks course, in particular. Some of the larger dishes, like the fish, were...well, the nice way to say it would be "delicately flavored."
"Bland" would be another way.
But overall there were more hits than misses.
The service was similarly spotty. Our waitress was polite and friendly, spoke impeccable English (and also Mandarin), and seemed genuinely eager to please. But the pace of the dishes was uneven—sometimes plates arrived before we were halfway finished with the previous course, while at other times, like when we were waiting for the check, it seemed we'd been forgotten.
If you have the money, you'll get a pretty good meal here. But they've got some work to do if they're hoping to add The Bridge to the chef's roster of Michelin started...
