Lord Stow's Bakery Main Store, Macao: 5/5 stelle

If you're looking for the best "pastel de nata" outside of Portugal, look no further: Lord Stow's Bakery Main Store in Macau is the place for you. This bakery has perfected the art of these delicious Portuguese pastries, offering a version slightly different from the original, but with a taste that can only be described as exquisite.

The recipe, while a variation on the traditional one, maintains the essence of the pastel de nata, elevating it to new levels of goodness. The custard is perfectly balanced, neither too sweet nor too heavy, while the puff pastry is crispy and light.

But it's not just for the pastel de nata that this place is worth visiting. The coffee also deserves a special mention. Excellent and well-prepared, it pairs perfectly with the pastries, creating a complete culinary experience.

The atmosphere of the main store reflects the passion and dedication that Lord Stow's puts into its products. The service is attentive and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable.

The best egg tarts on the planet. Stumbled on this place while exploring Coloane. I was waiting for a bus and saw Lord Stow's bakery there and decided to go and quickly grab something. I just snuck in and the worker was very happy to help me. At first, I wasn't really thinking that it was anything special because it looks like your run of the mill bakery in HK or Macau. Ordered a few egg tarts and was really shocked how good they were. The crusts are so good and the egg tart custard is just premium and buttery smooth. Now, I make it a point to go out of my way to visit a Lord Stow's if I can. 😂

I have been to several Lord Stow's in HK, Macau, and Japan and all have the same amazing quality and taste. Absolutely the best egg tarts I have ever had. The original Coloane Lord Stow's is still the best...

ord Stow's Garden Cafe is located on the back side of the originally Lord Stow's Bakery in Coloane. This is the largest of there four Lord Stow's venues in the village with a good sized seating section. Opening hours are 9am to 8pm daily.

The Cafe has a full menu so you can have a meal here if you like. Most simply come here for the famous pastel de nata (Portuguese style egg tarts) which are now MOP$10 each. I like to order 2 (or 3 if hungry) to enjoy with an espresso when I stop by the Lord Stow's Garden Cafe. The tarts are the same that come from the original bakery on the other side of the same large property.

Service is timely and overall decent. They can turn the tables over as quickly as possible. If you simply go for tarts and coffee/tea, you can get in our out in...

A visit to Lord Stow’s Bakery in Coloane is a cherished ritual. The quiet queue, the warm box of a dozen tarts—it’s a pilgrimage for the senses. That first bite is pure bliss: the audibly crisp, flaky pastry shatters to reveal a wobbly, rich custard with its signature caramelized top. Yet, this time, the experience was beautifully bittersweet. The familiar flavour instantly transported me back to a pastry shop in Portugal, a reward after completing the Camino last year. While Lord Stow's version is slightly richer and creamier than the classic pastél de nata, it evoked the same profound comfort. It’s not a perfect replica, but until I can return to Portugal, this is the most delicious and worthy tribute—a sweet, warm mouthful that vividly remembers a journey from a year ago.

After a lovely day at the beach, we decided to stop by Lord Stow's Bakery, and it was an excellent choice. The highlight was undoubtedly their egg tarts, which are nothing short of heavenly—rich, creamy, and with a perfectly flaky crust. Each bite felt like a little taste of paradise. The bakery itself is simple but clean, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I also loved their croissants; they were buttery and perfectly baked, making them a great addition to our treat haul. An added bonus was the friendly staff member who spoke Filipino, which made ordering so much easier and more enjoyable. Overall, Lord Stow's Bakery is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious pastries in a charming setting. Highly recommended!
