If you are looking for a place to "blow you away" this is probably it. I was blown away the first time I ate here many times ago, and I'm confident to say this is the best Chang Fen and congee you will ever eat in China. And if this is the best in Guangzhou, then it is the best in the world. So yes, for like a price of 15 RMB, you can eat the best Chang Fen in the world at this place. I'm envious of the locals living around there and just eating here for breakfast like it's just a normal Thursday morning. There is normally no wait for the table because people eat fast and leave, but you will need to wait a bit after ordering your Chang Fen. You order at the cashier up front, the guy will place your order with the Chang Fen guys, and you will need to come back and get it later. If you order congee, he will give you another receipt and you walk to the back of the restaurant to give your paper to the congee guy, and he will make it. There is no aircon or anything so it gets hot in the summer. It is considered a street stall so don't expect great service or comfortable seating. Anyways, I recommend this place to everybody who want to taste the best Chang Fen in the world. It's actually worth it to plan a trip to Guangzhou to eat here. Some reviews here are saying the cashier guy isn't nice, but honestly he just doesn't like people to just stand there, not knowing what they want, and not knowing what they want, holding up the line. If you can't speak Chinese, you can try using google translate to scan the menu and pick what you want. After that, take a photo of the menu, circle it, save the photo, and show it the cashier when it is your turn. Use hand gestures, show him how many you want, 1,2,3 etc., scan and pay, then it's done.

광저우에서 창펀과 콘지는 광둥인의 일상과 정서를 상징한다. 많이들 홍콩을 통해 창펀과 콘지를 처음 접할 텐데 홍콩 스타일은 본래 광저우 전통이 상업화를 거치며 다듬어진 형태다. 고로 홍콩이 세계에 알린 건 다름 아닌 광저우의 미각인 셈이다. 여긴 그 뿌리를 직접 맛보고 싶어 방문한 창펀 전문점이며 아침부터 밤늦게까지 골목 한편에서 김을 피워 올리고 있다. 문이 따로 없는 개방형 식당이라 겉에서 보면 왠지 포장마차 같고 환경도 썩 위생적이진 않은 편이다. 그렇지만 이런 꾸밈없는 분위기 속에 광저우 만의 정취가 고스란히 배어있었다. 직원 세 분이서 일하고 계셨고 저녁이라 한산했는데 창펀을 주문하자 거의 기계처럼 순식간에 만드셨다. 커다란 트레이에 묽은 쌀반죽을 붓고 살짝 익힌 뒤 돌돌 말아 접시에 옮겨냈다. 콘지는 마치 아포칼립스 직전처럼 화덕 위에 올라 있는 커다란 냄비에서 미리 끓여둔 걸 데워줬다. 냄비 속 죽이 고소한 김을 내뿜었는데 날이 더워 나 말곤 시킨 사람들이 안 보였다. 어쨌든 창펀과 콘지로 한상을 차린 뒤 먼저 콘지 한 숟가락을 떠먹었다. 생긴 건 잡탕 같아 가지고 별게 다 들어가던데 입안 가득, 코끝까지 퍼지는 고소함에 코박죽을 하게 만들었다. 속 재료로는 부드러운 흰 살 생선, 돼지고기, 계란, 그리고 요우티아오까지 들어있었다. 담백한 기본 바탕인 흰죽 위에 각각의 재료가 조화를 이뤄 완벽한 감칠맛과 질감을 만들어냈다. 이어서 창펀엔 소고기로 만든 소시지가 채워져 있었고 그 외엔 사실상 쌀 피뿐이었다. 간장 소스가 흥건하게 부어져 비주얼은 다소 너덜너덜했지만 전혀 짜지 않고 간도 딱 맞았다. 소시지는 탄력감이 좋고 말랑말랑했는데 부들부들한 쌀 피와 함께 후루룩 입안으로 넘어가며 놀랄 만큼 잘 어우러졌다. 속 재료가 좀 단출했어도 완성도는 높은 투박한 창펀이었다. 일정 동선상 저녁 식사로 먹었지만 아침에 먹었더라면 이보다 더 잘 어울릴 음식이 없겠다 싶고 콘지는 감히 최고의 보양식이었다. 총 21위안, 홍콩에서 먹는 것보다 몇 배나 싼 걸까? This restaurant was featured in the Michelin guide and became very famous. For less than CNY 10, you can get a plate of the iconic Cantonese rice noodle roll.
