My experience at Yutang Chunnuan Restaurant was nothing short of disappointing. This restaurant, often praised as the pinnacle of Cantonese cuisine and considered a “must-visit” in one’s lifetime, fell far below my expectations. With great anticipation, I even booked a room at the White Swan Hotel just so I could secure a reservation months in advance. However, the final experience left me utterly dissatisfied.
Firstly, the service was far from Michelin standard. The waitstaff often disappeared in groups, making it impossible to find anyone when needed. Conversely, when no assistance was required, multiple servers lingered aimlessly nearby. Additionally, the service was cold and expressionless, lacking the warmth and attentiveness one would expect from a restaurant of this caliber.
As for the dishes, I ordered the renowned Sunflower Chicken and Iberico Char Siu. The chicken had a subtle fragrance, but the meat was overcooked and turned out quite tough. The Char Siu, while visually appealing at first, had an unpleasant porky odor and tasted overly sweet, becoming cloying after a few bites. Some pieces were also too tough and dry, which detracted from what should have been a tender and flavorful dish.

We had the Michelin tasting menu. Food quality was good. Price was reasonable at ¥1,248 for 2 pax including service tax. We ordered one plate of char siew (barbeque pork) and a tea pot.
