Sujixiang — Restaurant in Kunming

This is a vegetarian buffet for 20 CNY per person. It's great - a huge range of super interesting flavors and preparations, from mild squash cakes to stinky tofu to silky eggplant to spicy lotus root. I'm not vegetarian, and didn't miss meat at all.

There are probably 30 warm dishes to try, a table of salads and condiments, 4 or 5 soups, and a desserts table. It feels like a convivial cafeteria.

We went back twice while in Kunming. It opens at 5:30pm and seems to be closing down by 8pm. It's around the back courtyard side of the building and up a flight of stairs. You pass kitchens and loos and enter the large dining room. On the right hand side, almost to the buffet, there's a cashier where you pay first. Save your receipt to give to the guy who hands you your plates five steps...

Consistently tasty vegetarian (actually vegan) food with something for every taste so Long as you don’t require meat! Low key, attractive atmosphere and dinner includes choices of fruit and cookies/cakes, as well as fruit juices and teas to choose from. 20 yuan (RMB) for all of this....
