Food: 5/5 Of all the Genki Sushi I've been to, despite being in an area with not much attractions or other reasons to go to, this Genki Sushi have relatively fresh sushi, and the arrival time of the food was quick and efficient.
I'll start off with the lunch set, for HKD 112, you get a salad, Udon with Beef, and the other Sushi in the sushi set image. The Japanese Cheese Cake and Salmon Hand Roll are add-ons to the lunch set, hence 112 is not the original price of the lunch set, but the set with the 2 extra items, the prices will be listed below.
The "Salad" was quite appetizing, it had a semi-sour flavor, but the fish row and the salad sauce gave it a sweet taste.
The "Japanese Cheese Cake" was one of the worst I've ever gotten, never get the cheese cake from this store. Unlike the relatively hard texture in other Genki Sushi stores, my cheese cake melted relatively quickly, and also didn't taste sweet. Even after washing my mouth with the green tea, the cake was still mildly sour. It costed HKD14.
The "Udon with Beef" is on par, if not better than the same dish in many other Genki chains, the beef was tender despite its looks, and offered a strong beef flavour to the broth, the udon itself had a chewy texture, while not being too rubbery.
The "Salmon Hand Roll" was overall lacking salmon, it costed HKD13 as an add-on to the lunch set. It lacked salmon, you should only get this if you want to fill your belly with more rice and seaweed.
The remaining sushi set is great, but nothing to write home about, it's your typical sushi that you can get at a Genki restaurant, the taste is as good as the looks.
Now I'll start talking about the individual dishes that I got, first, I got two "Wagyu with Sukiyaki Sauce", it costed a total of HKD40. It's good, the Wagyu definitely had a bit more fat than the typical Genki beef, and when it came out, the dish was also sizzling hot, the juice and texture was definitely another level above the typical beef in Genki chains, but personally, I don't find it worth the HKD20 price just for a single slice of Wagyu and rice. Still, if you have the chance, at least give it a try(It's a limited-time dish).
I also got two "Sear Urchin Gunkan" that costed HKD54, so HKD27 each. It's one of the more premium dish you can get in Genki, as the cost for even a single urchin sushi is quite expensive. In this store, I don't really think it's worth it, this is my main gripe with most stores that doesn't operate in a more populated area. The food is usually not as fresh, especially since it's highly likely that there aren't as much customers, hence the stock won't be rotated as quickly. The urchin was definitely not as fresh as the ones I had in other Genki Sushi stores, and the defrosting should be given a little more tine, but other than the visuals, I'll say taste-wise, it's decent, but it's subpar to the urchin sushis you can get in other Genki Sushi stores.
Finally, the two desserts, the "Hokkaido 5.0 Milk Soft Cream with Assorted Berries", and "Milk Soft Cream with Mochi and Salted Caramel Sauce", with each costing HKD25. Both tasted just as how you expect, with the ice cream very creamy and soft in texture, while being sweet. If you like caramel, then go for the latter one, but if you like a sweet flavor with a hint of berries flavor, then go for the assorted berries one instead. Both of the ones I tried were great, and I think it really is a matter of preference if you should try it too.
Service: 4/5 The service is basically non-existent as you can expect, you pour your own green tea, you get the dishes yourself, etc. Though, I gave this an abnormal high rating compared to other Genki Sushi due to the relatively quick and responsive speed of both the chefs and the waiters there.
Atmosphere: 4/5 Although I do like this place since it's relatively dimmer compared to other Genki Sushi, I don't think most people would enjoy it as much as me. Aside from the lighting, it's your typical Genki...
Read moreI am not a fan of Genki Sushi because the choice of sushi is not very creative, so I have not been for a long time. At the entrance, there was a no camera sign! But I took these photos using a phone so I guess its ok After this visit, I felt that their sushi is getting better and there are more choices offered especially for dessert such as Haagen Daz and cakes. Basically every table was by the sushi conveyor belt so you could grab what you want and if it was not there you can place an order. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Green tea: I liked the way they did not use tea bags because the taste gets bland after a few refiles. Here they use green tea powder so you can decide how strong you want it. The green tea taste was slightly bitter and grassy. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Genki roll: Initially I wanted to try the deep fried salmon skin but the genki roll has deep fried salmon skin in it, so I tried that. It does not say that on the menu, but you can see the deep fried salmon skin if you look carefully. The salmon and salmon skin tasted really delicious because it was like eating fried salmon with raw salmon. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Chocolate cake: The cake tasted the best because the strength of chocolate was just right and not too sweet along with the soft cake. Adding green tea powder made it even more delicious. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Japanese cheesecake: The cheesecake was lovely and soft, but it got quite sickly because the cheese taste was strong and similar to eating sweet creamy dairylea spread. Perhaps I should have added green tea powder to it as...
Read moreNon-existent service. Went for tea set, and after 50 minutes of waiting for our last missing 2 items, we left. We already waited over 30 mins for the other 3 missing items. Expect a very long waiting time. When we entered, the restaurant was not even half full. The quality and taste at this branch are not up to standard compared to...
