Xiyue No.8 offers a refined culinary experience that reflects both the sophistication of Shanghai’s modern dining scene and the deep-rooted traditions of Chinese cuisine. Earning its two Michelin stars, this restaurant presents a blend of exceptional ingredients, masterful cooking techniques, and a delicate balance of flavors. Upon entering, you're immediately greeted by a chic, minimalist decor that sets a serene tone for the meal. The ambiance is understated yet elegant, allowing the focus to remain on the food. The service is impeccable, with staff that are both knowledgeable and attentive, ensuring the dining experience feels personalized. The menu at Xiyue No.8 emphasizes seasonal ingredients, sourced from the finest local producers. The chef's modern take on classic Chinese dishes is nothing short of extraordinary. Highlights include their signature braised abalone, which melts in your mouth with a rich, umami-packed sauce, and a subtly smoky Peking duck, served with delicate pancakes and a perfectly balanced hoisin sauce. The presentation of each dish is artful, with thoughtful details that elevate the experience. Dessert here is equally impressive, offering lighter, less sweet options than typical Chinese desserts, but with a focus on texture and a fusion of traditional and modern techniques. The matcha-flavored pudding with lotus seeds, for instance, was a delightful way to end the meal, cleansing the palate with refreshing notes.

Haven’t eaten yet but not expecting much anymore. It is unacceptable to make a booking 2 weeks in advance and still have to wait in queue to eat in a 2 michelin stars. 2 Stars to eat in a standard looking restaurant in a Social Housing complex. Further we were seated next to the kitchen and stewarding Room which doors open every two minutes. When asked to have another table we where asked to wait 30 minutes for another table. What the hell is going on with the Michelin Guide ? Have you lost your mind ?!!!!! 1 star I would still understand but 2 ??? Rewise the Guide standards ! We are not even hungry anymore. What a shame ! Staff carried about our issue but we were expecting 2 stars Michelin standards. This is rubbish ! Now that we ate I complete my comment/complain: Roasted duck is disgusting. Tasting only like pork fat. I pretty used to cantonese food and this is so bad. Answer from the service and kitchen:’the duck is standard you are the one not used to the taste’ ðŸĪĢ Shrimp Sui Mai taste off and non of the Dim Sum are special. Not to forget the rotten shrimp Wontons. Even cantonese restaurants in Thailand do better.

We came to this michelin starred cantonese restaurant for it's stellar dim sum and were not disappointed. In particular the spicey tofu had a crispy exterior contrasting nicely with the creamy interior, the fried pork rib had a sweet-savory tangerine crust, and the fried green beans and pork were smokey and good. I don't normally care for seafood but really enjoyed the prawns on toast. We all loved the barbecue pork puffs. The baked bun with melted egg yolk custard erupted like a lava cake on first bite and was delicious. The chilled mango spago pearls soup was a refreshing palate cleanser to end the meal. The decor was stylish and service attentive (bringing me wet naps and even plastic gloves unbidden). The menu was listed in english and mandarin with the chef's recommendations noted. We had a reservation this saturday night and every table was filled. I noticed one couple walk in and be turned away. The moderate prices were welcome for a restaurant of this high caliber.
