Vegetarian Paradise!! Chinese Style, BUT.....
About 40,000 square feet divided into 2 floors ( upstairs is the more expensive hot pot vegetarian, downstairs is the all you can eat vegetarian buffet). At a cheap 38¥ (Lunar New Year 48¥) per adult with hundreds of choices and most of them are decent taste, what's NOT to like? Why 1 star? Explain below...
The founder was at one time a very successful entrepreneur that owned a chain of 8 popular seafood restaurants. Few years back even when he was raking in money he realized he was not happy with material wealth. So he closed down all except this location and converted it into a full Buddhist vegetarian restaurant.
With very noble goals: inexpensive food that served the masses. Vegetarian food only to promote good health. Green earth policy of no wasting food.
At 38¥ (less than $6US) certainly is cheap. Vegetarian food that even meat lovers find tasty. The eco friendly not wasting food is the one that TOTALLY failed in my opinion. To encourage customers to do that they only give you one set of dishes on entry (a plate, a bowl and a cup). Customers who finish and want refills (pretty much ALL) must grab their used plates and bowls/cups and go back to buffet areas to refill!! WHAT THE Fxxx!!! That would be an absolute NO NO in the West or anywhere that's civilized. A total health hazards! Don't these experienced restauranteurs know germs can get passed around from dirty plates? On top of that I observed some customers grabbed fruits (oranges, tangerines etc) with their bare hands, totally unsanitary!
