We wanted to chill for a bit after exploring the area, but weren't hungry enough for BBQ, so we tried this place even though the complete lack of people should've been a warning sign.
There's hardly anything on the menu - just ciders/beers, coffee and a few smoothies, plus a sad-looking tart slice in a fridge. And the "menu" is several chalkboards with hard-to-read chicken scratch. Apparently they normally have hot dogs and spaghetti but were out. I ordered a smoothie and asked if they had any other non-alcoholic/non-caffeinated drinks. The cashier said they had some kind of passion fruit mint drink so I ordered that.
We went upstairs and they hadn't cleaned up the last table even though - as I mentioned - we were the only ones there. There was other trash around the upstairs area in general. The first drink took quite a while and the second took forever.
The passion fruit drink was weird. I don't see how anyone would like it. Unsweetened soda water and in addition to the mint it had some flavorless chive/straw-like herb pieces that we kept having to spit out. The chocolate smoothie would have been OK if the banana in it had been ripe, but unfortunately it wasn't.
For $95, the two drinks should have been at least drinkable.
We left in a hurry when lots of little flies started building up in the area upstairs. Never going back and don't...
Read moreCheers Days is a bar along Ting Kok Road at Tai Mei Tuk. It is a fairly typical beach bar with two levels of outdoor seating. The upstairs deck has views of the beach area and the harbour. Cheers offers a basic menu and specialises in huge burgers and hot dogs which are meant to be shared. They also have fries and other sides along with a typical range of beer and other drinks.
We passed by recently after a day of hiking in nearby Plover Cove Country Park for a post hike round. Leffe Brune tasted as expected, coconut ordered was quite old, juice wasn't very sweet. We also tried their fries which tasted very odd. Not sure what sort of grease they used but these had an odd taste. They also took a long time to serve. Just a few other patrons when we visited, still took over 30 minutes to bring our fries out.
Overall, drinks were good enough and the upstairs deck is nice if weather is favourable. Would skip food order next...
Read moreShould have read the reviews before we went. There's a consistent theme here. With orders taking unacceptably long.
We parked up, gave our order and went upstairs to get a seat. It wasn't busy when we arrived.... Our drinks came at a reasonable time. But we waited more than 40 mins for the food... Several other people had arrived after us and got their food long before us.
Complained to the staff, and clearly they didn't have a clue about what customer service is. Had no gumption to check our order, or follow up. Was only after the 3rd time we complained and I saw the chef, that they asked us to wait another 10mins. So they didn't even process our food order in the first place. Very disappointing and would not recommend unless you're like Louis Armstrong... and you have all the time in...
