I have resisted writing a review to this place for fear of making it more popular than it is now. Because it is already difficult to get the breads I want if I come in late. I guess they cannot easily scale up production given the family nature of the business. I have tried their carrot cake with cinnamon which I find a bit too sweet, but my friends love it and it is not always available. I actually saw them juicing real carrots. Nordic rye, normal rye, five-grain and cornmeal breads are all lovely. Unlike most sourdoughs in town, Mayse's bread is dense, so it provides substance without feeling bloated. For the very dense breads like the two kinds of rye, they can be sliced then frozen and reheat, they offer layers of taste in a slice (eg taste of caraway and molasses) even after defrost. The 5-grain and cornmeal breads are supreme with butter, best to consume within 3 days and not good after frozen. When I compare the weight of Mayse's bread and price against other bakeries, it offers the best value for money. At this price, it is the only bakery that lives up to the standard in the west.

In my opinion, I think they sell the best bread in Tai Po and one of the best in Hong Kong. It’s packed with rich wheat flavour and the use of additives is minimal. Their prices may seem high but for 50 dollars you get a huge size bread that can feed a family. Their muffins are also worth tasting and not overly sugary. My favourite is the cinnamon raisin bread as I am a cinnamon fan, but their savoury bread is equally good and fresh. Apart from bread they also sell healthy drinks and coffee like kombucha. The shop owner is a humorous Latvian guy with a big heart. I guess their pizzas are super delicious and healthy but they are only offered on weekends. Be sure to try a slice when you are lucky enough to drop off in Tai Mei Tuk!

A place to purchase fresh healthy sour dough breads. Eric and wife explores different flavours such as pumice bread, cranberry walnuts. Also have fresh baguettes, loaves of olive, sundries tomatoe breads Pizzas are freshly made sour dough base are very nice, best to consume them whilst they are piping hot....truffle pizza is to die for! Muffins are banana, carrot and chocolate. Mini sizes and great with coffee. Drinks selection limited, only coffee. Best for purchase of breads to go Not a great place to go you’re thinking of air conditioning, sitting outside can be hot - esp in the summer
