La Casona de Laly — Restaurant in Escazú

As I speak European Spanish / Castilian and couldn’t use the Spanish menu I had to ask for an English one - but this wasn’t much useful as the structure, translations and descriptions of the dishes are confusing. I wanted to try a casado but the waiter recommended the dish of the day - then he started to enumerate different mains, different sides all in local dialect which I couldn’t understand. Finally I ordered chicken breast with yucca and salad. The meat was apart from burnt-bitter just tasteless, not seasoned in any way. The salad was tasteless and had no dressing but it did have a long dark hair in it - which is the reason why it receives only 1 star instead of 2. I didn’t receive a glass - I had to drink water directly out of the bottle! I can’t understand the good reviews published on here - for me it was the most tasteless Latin American...

The food was good and reasonably priced. The drinks were good and made with pure natural fruits so if you have a sensitive tongue like myself I do not recommend the piña colada or pineapple juice. Aside from that service was great. Environment was great. The servers were very attentive and kind. Its a nice place to come and I would recommend it. After being billed however I had to come back and edit this review. Check your receipts before paying because the menu says taxes all included with the price mentioned but then when you get the bill before the total and after the total the food is taxed. We ordered 6 casados on the menu it said 4,000 and some change then the receipt said 6,400 for each then on top of that the sale taxes and then service taxes. They charged taxes 3 times without gratuity...

Needed a place to eat. We just checked places nearby and open since it was about 9 or 10pm. We walked in and seems like a place mainly locals go. It was a big place with indoor and outdoor areas to eat. They had a big menu but not tons of vegan options which I already expected. I was able to get veggies with rice and beans and it was great. The mushrooms were delicious and well cooked. My friends ordered ceviche and arroz con Camerones. They said it was good but the rice with shrimp needed some flavor. Also, the hot sauce is delish! Don't skip out on Costa...
