We made a reservation for a special New Year’s Day dinner. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn’t have several of the items listed in their small but well-balanced menu, including items recommended by the host when we were seated. The server had to return multiple times to take our order because each time we selected something it wasn’t available, even though we specifically inquired with her -in advance- about what was actually available. We probably should have walked away but we were only half-finished our bottle of wine, and had nowhere else to go. When our dinner finally arrived, it was a compromise to the compromise of the compromise for what we originally wanted. I still feel it could have been a win as one of our appetizers (the beat salad) was delicious but the rest of the food was mediocre -at best- with the flatbread only being edible as a result of our hunger. We tried our best to remain pleasant but our server threw in the towel on friendly service somewhere between the explanation that they didn’t have most of our preferred menu items and returning to tell us they didn’t have the rest of our preferred items either. I feel that for the price of our meal, it is fair to provide an honest critique of...
Read moreThe Kitchen at Sendero in Nosara offered the best meal we had, bar none. There are many great places to eat in Playa Guiones, but Sendero just simply hovers above all. The food is done right, simple yet flavorful and it doesn’t aim to over reach in its delivery. Where it stands out is in the quality and the approach. You have to try it to understand it. This includes everything from the starters to the main course to the dessert. Fresh caught fish where the fish is the star, not spices or sauces that hide the fish, starters whet your appetite with full flavor and subtlety. Desserts are equally sublime, an olive oil bundt cake with fresh whip cream and a vanilla ice cream that is so artfully concocted that it would’ve been a star on its own. This is one of the few places we’ve ever been to that makes you feel cozy, comfortable and refined although you’re in a relaxed beach chic vibe. The cherry on top is the service; everyone greets you with a warm smile, happy that you’re there. Our server Marla Quintero tied up the whole dining experience into a beautiful bow that left us with a lasting impression. Going back to Sendero Kitchen will always be the right and...
Read moreIt was a very busy night with rain and there were a series of kitchen mishaps that would have led to an extremely poor experience for my friend, her mother, and me who were all very hangry to start. However , the manager Olivier swooped in and made everything right. This positive review is specifically for him because 1) I’ve never had a bad situation turn so quickly into a positive one and 2) I hope Sendero Kitchen compensates this man well because his ability to solve problems and damage control is ridiculously impressive. I’ve managed Customer Service related programs in the past and he truly is a diamond in the rough. I was fully ready to write a bad review which I never do and tell all my friends and coworkers to never go there but now I will do the exact opposite. This restaurant and manager genuinely cares about their customers and employees, they created a beautiful atmosphere, and they make very delicious food. (Loved the chicken, cocktails, and crispy rice tuna)
