If you are lucky enough in this life to visit Guiones, you are luckier still to stay at La Negra. Not only did the accommodations and location exceed our expectations, the people were also courteous, kind, and welcoming.
SURF - Whether you are a first time or long-time surfer, be sure you meet up with Juan Carlos and catch some waves with him or one of his teammates. The daily use of his boards was simple and reliable, and our crew was very grateful for his hospitality.
ROOMS - We stayed in 6 and 7 and I would recommend these rooms when visiting as two couples. Having the kitchenette and shade of room 7 and the day long sun of room 6 to quickly dry suits, rash guards, and towels was just perfect. YOGA - Do yourself a favor and be sure to attend one of Paula’s classes. Even if you have never done yoga before, it is a great work out and you might just have a life altering experience like I did.
FOOD – If you are a foodie or a foodie in training, experiencing breakfast at Destiny Cafe will be a truly memorable experience. When you stay at La Negra, breakfast is included, and you will thank yourself. The four of us tried just about everything on the menu and could not get enough. Do note that Destiny is closed to the public on Mondays, but there is a limited menu available for guests so don’t miss out! The smoothies, coffee, and pastries will also blow you away. If you have the pleasure of tasting one of the croissant (made fresh in house)… you will believe you are in a French cafe. It is no wonder that people travel significant distances to experience the deliciousness of Destiny.
Though we love to travel and see all the beautiful places our world has to offer… before I leave this life, I will pay another visit to this little gem.

Read moreI did two days of lessons with Juan Carlos and he was so wonderful to work with. I’m not a total beginner, and he struck a perfect balance between positive encouragement and constructive feedback—which made a huge difference in both my confidence and skill.||What stood out most is how much he emphasized the fundamentals and the importance of taking things step by step. I’ll admit I was a bit impatient at first, but I completely understand why he structured things that way. By day two, I was out past the lineup, catching amazing waves, and actually carving with control. His coaching helped me get there.||Juan Carlos has a calm, grounded presence, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students improving. I’m already thinking about my next trip back to Costa Rica and when I do, I’ll definitely be booking more lessons with him.||Highly recommend for anyone looking to truly level up their surfing in a thoughtful, empowering way. Thank you, Juan Carlos!||I also stayed at the hotel and found the staff friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Felix at the front desk who was really helpful in moving me to a new room one night when I had a sudden fly infestation. His kindness and quick support made all...
