CharlesBBQ — Restaurant in Pozos

Staying at a hotel nearby, chanced stopping in with my wife before we flew home. Our Spanish being limited, Charles the owner went out of his way to help us with the finer points of the menu, his hospitality and that of his staff were excellent. We first split a brisket sandwich which was excellent, I followed that up with a burger which was simply the best I had in Costa Rica. The food was pretty good, the smoked chicken had lots of flavor, and the French fries were good. Our server was a nice lady. However, another interaction with a different server was a different story. He changed out my Spanish menu for English (I can’t complain too much because I am very pale but was clearly speaking Spanish with the table) but I did feel like he was trying to hustle me because I look like a tourist. The place is very nice. I liked the atmosphere. I tried different things on the menu. Let's start with the statement: "the best burger". I had high hopes but ended up disappointed. It's a well made burger but nothing to write home about. The craftsmanship was there, it was well cooked and constructed, I would give them that. The brisket was very dry. The ribs were ok but they committed the same sin I've seen other restaurants do, drenching the ribs in bbq sauce. It just makes the ribs taste like meat diving in ultra sweet syrup.
