REFUGIO Tamarindo — Restaurant in Tamarindo

Great spot with a simple but excellent menu!

My wife and I split the cheesesteak, which was surprisingly unique — it came with an egg on top, adding a nice twist that really made the sandwich stand out. My son, a chicken tender fanatic, went for the chicken sandwich and fries, which he loved. My daughter ordered a chicken salad — I didn’t try it myself, but she said it was good, and I did taste the dressing, which was very nice.

The fries across all our dishes were exceptional — perfectly done and a highlight of the meal.

For drinks, I had a caipirinha, and my daughter ordered a piña colada — both were very good. We visited right after a heavy rain, so the place was nearly empty, and we had it mostly to ourselves. There was a musician setting up with his guitar when we arrived, but unfortunately, we didn’t get to stick around for the live music. Because of the quiet night, it’s hard to judge how the place handles a crowd, but the service we received was exceptional — attentive and friendly.

Our total bill was CRC 139,153 (about $77 USD), with a 15% discount from our resort.

Espresso, pour over, French press, whatever you want. I got a pour over in a chemex and they just handed me the chemex so I could pour the portion myself. The day before I got a mocha latte, but instead of your normal espresso/chocolate/sugar they brewed the grounds with local cocoa powder. Incredible. This place is amazing!!! I loved it so much, came back a second time. They make the best cocktails, amazing live music, and delicious food. The ambience was super chill!Everyone made you feel welcomed and well taken care of. Feels like a friendly family atmosphere. Want to especially thank Ezequiel for such a lovely night!! He and his team are hard working and made sure everyone there had a lovely night. I will def be coming back again in the near future!!!
