Worse experience in 7 years of living in Costa Rica If I leave a review, it's normally because I had an amazing experience somewhere.
I ate at Rumors a while back and wasn't impressed but I'm all for supporting local businesses so I decided not to write anything negative.
Last night I went to Rumors and it was a nightmare. The lady at the entrance was so unbelievably rude and unfriendly that I'm never going back. I've lived in Costa Rica for 7 years and never had anyone treat me nor my friends with such lack of respect.
I walked in with 3 friends and I was the last one. She wouldn't let me in without telling me why. As I was trying to argue my way in, she let another couple in.
One of my friends realized I wasn't inside so he came out to bring me in, and the lady at the door told him "if you're with him you can't go back him".
My friend told her to refer to me as "she" but she kept referring to me as "he" even tough I'm a trans woman with all feminine attributes, and a cute skirt, heels and makeup.
My friend was fed up with her transphobism, so we decided to go somewhere else.... but my friend's girlfriend and our 4th friend were still inside and the lady at the door wouldn't let my friend go back in to grab them.
I have never been victim of transphobia in Costa Rica... and at the very least, I'm releaved that the lady who treated us so badly is NOT Costa Rican!! She is not representative of how trans women like me are treated in this country.
The lady was French and I noticed it from her accent right away because French is mother tongue. I even tried speaking in French with her as I thought it might help communicate better but was just as mean and rude.
I've never been refused entrance anywhere in Costa Rica for being trans. I'm shocked and so were my friends.
If you want French food, I recommend 1000x Utopia where the French chef receives all guests with respect, love and care. If you want good burgers, I recommend Burger Shack by the beach and the Tama Burger in the Mercadito, two places where the staff is kind, friendly...
Read moreThis bar is run by scammers! Our party paid for a drink at the bar and our card was never returned. Later that night we received a notification that $700 was attempted to be charged to the same card. When we returned to the bar to ask for the card, the workers made an elaborate story about how they saw a random man pick the card up off the ground and they said nothing. But that was all a lie; the bar staff had the card the entire time. They also said the person they saw taking the card was “part of the cartel” and a “human trafficker.” All lies! Aside from this, they play old 90s music and it’s empty. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment, and I will be reporting this place to...
Read moreI went to a Latin night here and it was great, the music was good. Quite crowded but that’s clubs for you. Only annoying thing was the bathrooms. They were letting people go in 2 and 3 people at a time. I go in with my friend and this woman behind the bar starts yelling at me and looks extremely mad when we were going to go in the bathroom together, this is 2 people btw. She then gets security and he tells me only 1 at a time. I then explain everyone has been going 2 or 3 people why am I suddenly being yelled at when it’s not just me? He lets us in the end but it was still very rude how that lady treated us. Wouldn’t recommend because...
