This place is a sham and is using purchased/fake reviews to alter perceptions of customers. Here is our experience below:
We arrived at Tandoor because we were be were very excited to have Indian. A cuisine that’s not common where we live in the states, this restaurant boasts a 4.9 star review across hundreds of reviews
When we arrived tried several different seats but noticed half of the restaurant smelled like sewage (poop). We sat down and ordered a mocktail which never showed up. The ambiance was ok and the waitress was very attentive as there were 3 tables currently seated.
We ordered dishes I am familiar with and had requested them to be made spicy like Indian is. However when it was returned it was extremely sweet with a little bit of spice. The dishes lacked value and I had literally 6 cubes of chicken in my $20 entree. Something I found odd was this is the first Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to which did not include basmati rice w entrees. My wife also thought the food was low quality and not hot.
The food here wasn’t very authentic outside of names and visual appearance of dishes (served in pots covered with sauce). When the bill came we were surprised to have spent $80. This included ~25% in local fee and service added. I had extreme trouble with this based on quality and that several days previous I paid 17 euro for the same dish in Berlin, Germany at an upscale Indian restaurant (next review).
The mint sauce was ok according to my wife but she also pointed out if you’re spending $40 a seat you should get a cloth napkin instead of a hotdog cantina style...
Read moreWe've owned a Villa in the development next to Tandoor and were so excited when we heard it was opening. It is now our "go to" place for our first night of our stay, because - honestly - who wants to cook after a day of travel? Tandoor is actually located a little outside of Tamarindo in Playa Langosta - a 15-20 minute walk. (which you'll need after the amazing meal!). This is a restaurant that is DEFINITELY worth seeking out! Everything we've ever had has always been freshly prepared, delicious and 100% authentic Indian food. The house white is good and perfect with the spices of the dishes. A note on that: when some people think of Indian food they think curry, which they think is hot, and it can be. At Tandoor they use spices like turmeric, cardamom and a whole bunch of others that give the dishes great depth of flavor WITHOUT being spicy. The naan is also freshly prepared and the jasmine rice is so fluffy. Service is always friendly and welcoming, never rushed and never discourteous. The owner is almost always in the dining room, which is open to the outside so you can hear the waves from the nearby ocean. We were finished but had leftovers and he asked if we wanted them boxed up, to which we said yes. As I was handing him our leftover rosemary naan my hand slipped and the naan ended up on the floor. He insisted on giving us a fresh order to go. Something thoughtful and generous. We will definitely be back! HIGHLY...
Read moreThis place is off the beaten path, but I feel like that’s a good thing. The food was so delicious. I love a spicy Indian dish, and our server brought over a side dish of their hot pepper sauce, so we could modify the heat per our liking.
We started with pakoras and samosas. One thing I hate is when I run out of dipping sauce! Well our server didn’t let that happen. He proactively brought over more mint and tamarind sauces for us so we never ran out.
I had the date dumplings in a curry sauce (can’t remember the name, on the vegetarian side of the menu) Never had that before and wow, it was so good! It went perfectly with the coconut lime rice we ordered. My husband had the chicken tikka masala and he also thoroughly enjoyed it.
Service was great. It was a calm night during off season, so just a few of us were in the restaurant. But who cares, the food is why we went and it was so good! This place had less of a “chain” look and feel than the other Indian place in town. We are really glad we...
