Fish and Cheeses — Restaurant in Tamarindo

This was by far the worst experience ever. Upon arriving, I noticed that I was the only person of color, so I was getting some looks. A waitress took the drink order and brought out bread. Eventually, the waiter came and took the food order. By this time, I had been there for at least 40 minutes. Another group was seated next to my table and within 30 minutes, they received their appetizer. So another 40 minutes goes by and absolutely no wait staff ever came to check on my table. The party that set next to me then received their entrees. Now, I’m a bit concerned because I had already been there about an hour before the party next to me arrived and they were given an appetizer and their entrees. The waiter that took the food order, never looked my way, as if he was avoiding eye contact. So I waited a little longer to see if any food that was coming out was mine……and no. By this time, I was really disappointed so I let the waitress know to cancel the order. Her excuse was that the fish that was ordered takes longer. I would have been understanding if a whole fish was ordered, but that wasn’t the case, it was salmon. If the salmon was actually cooked properly and not dried out, it should only take about 10 minutes for a salmon entree to be cooked. Eventually, the same waiter that did everything under the sun to avoid coming to the table, came and brought the receipt for the drinks that were ordered and just placed it on the table and left. Nobody offered any type of an apology. Now, if I were not in another country, I probably wouldn’t have even paid for that because there is absolutely no way that that should’ve happened. In my honest opinion, I feel as though the waiter never put the food order in because it was close to closing time and they were so willing to bring a receipt for something that should’ve been on the house. 2 hours of my time was wasted and for what… nothing. I can’t even give a review on their food because I never received mine. However, looking at other reviews, I know I wasn’t missing out on anything but my time. This place was highly recommended and it was advised that I'd need a reservation to get a table. Didn't turn out to need the reservation since I visited during the low season.

Service was okay. Food was also...okay. For me that was the biggest issue.

For the price, for a supposedly fancy Italian restaurant, there was nothing exceptional about the food. Everything was okay, edging on bland. This was no Costa Rican twist on Italian cuisine. I've been to casual Italian dining in LA that was easily better. Maybe Italian is harder to come by in Costa Rica?

Also, for an establishment with fish and cheese in the name, there didn't seem to be much selection or showcasing of either.

Tempted to give a star because the service WAS decent but, honestly, the food was SO pricey and exceedingly underwhelming.

Was pumped to eat here but it was just kinda meh. Both red wines by the glass tasted like they had been opened too long. The salad had good fresh ingredients but was flavorless. I ordered the house special meat lasagne and it tasted exactly like chef boyardee raviolis. I told my husband this and he thought I was exaggerating then tasted it and was blown away by the similarity. We kinda wanted to take some home and do a blind taste test. Don’t get me wrong, I love the canned chef, just not at a fancy Italian restaurant. From the carrots in the sauce I’m guessing the house bolognese tastes the same. The meat tortellini with the butter sauce was decent and the bread was excellent. Chocolate cheese cake was just regular cheese cake with chocolate sauce and tasted strange with weird chunks.
