Aesthetically a cut above the rest of Trinidad’s multitude of homogenous restaurants. Spacious, with the option of either indoor, air conditioned or terraced dining. San Jose’s also has a generator, which may not sound like much, but when one of Trinidad’s infrequently frequent power cuts comes you will be thanking your lucky electrons.
I don’t mean to be exclusive, but this review is aimed predominantly at travelling vegans. For what it’s worth, other people’s food did look good and the portions were generous. We ordered mixed vegetables, white rice and sweet potato fries. Combining the former two with some salt and pepper worked a treat. The rice was surprisingly excellent. The sweet potato fries were filling, but I’ll leave it at that. It was a little tricky to discern if Cuba’s variety of sweet potato is especially dense, or if they were not made fresh. Let’s give San Jose’s the benefit of the doubt and say the former. All this came to CUP 450, which is exceedingly reasonable for the generous portions.

Read moreSimply the best restaurant in Trinidad and one of the best ones in Cuba. Expect a queue especially for dinner, otherwise go there for late lunch or very early dinner. The food was just great. After many disappointments trying other places recommended by travel guides and locals, this one ranks way above and out of scale. Loved the fresh lemonade (probably the best lemonade I’ve ever had), the complementary warm bread and olive oil with melted parmesan cheese, the tostones con camarones, the lobster with bechamel sauce, and last but not least the lobster in red sauce (giant, well cooked, tasty and definitely the best lobster I’ve ever had). The flan was not exceptional though. Overall not cheap but the meals we had were absolutely worth it. We did not pay much less in other (terrible) places... Five-star service. The food came fairly quickly although the restaurant was full. The staff was helpful, very nice and smiling. Special thanks to Danay...
Read moreWe celebrate special occasion and we got a recommendation about this restaurant. The dishes was pretty good with big portions. But the main problem was the wine. We decided to order a bottle, I am don’t have great wine knowledge but I pointed at the menu for middle price wine. The waiter confirmed and bring a bottle and show it to me. I validate again and ask if it’s this wine (“cineza” or something similar). When we got the bill I found that was the most expensive wine in the list!! I understand that mistakes happened, but the price was double then what I chose. Only after our local guide intervened, the manager was accepted to reduce the price by 30%. Another thing, there is 30% off the price menu for locals, but I had to pay full price even for our local guide food. In the end, the food was good and the portions was pretty big but we left...
