Hideaway Restaurant — Restaurant in Pissouri Municipality

Lovely looking place, good food, but the staff clearly do not favour younger patrons.

Came here for Dinner in October after seeing it during numerous past trips. We were particularly excited as they advertise they use a charcoal grill for the meats.

The setting is beautiful and I'm amazed that they managed to secure the old street/path as a closed off restaurant.

The food we had was good. I particularly enjoyed the Halloumi!

Unfortunately, the various staff we encountered throughout the evening were dismissive, non-caring and even rude. We definitely got the feeling that as we were the youngest customers, they didn't think it worth putting any effort into serving. We had finished our drinks by the time the starters came, and we're not offered more, and even when we asked for the same again when being brought the food, it never came, and the same with the mains.

My daughter had not finished eating when the bill was brought to us. I then realised we were being rushed out as a large group that they were very familiar with had come in.

Bislang waren unsere Versuche, gute zypriotische Küche zu finden, von mäßigem Erfolg. Das Hideaway hat uns endlich erlöst. Die telefonische Reservierung, mit Rückruf des Restaurants, funktionierte zuverlässig. Das Restaurant liegt am Anfang der Fußgängerzone, man geht durch ein Tor, eine Treppe hinunter und ist in einem kleinen Hof. Der hintere Bereich ist überdacht und bietet Deckenventilatoren, was in Anbetracht der derzeitigen Hitze sehr willkommen ist. Wir haben das Menü Nr. 2 für zwei genommen für derzeit 18 Euro/Person, dieses bietet einen großen Querschnitt durch die Klassiker: Taramas, Tahini, Zatziki, dazu eine schöne Schüssel Bauernsalat, dann gegrillter Haloumi auf einer Scheibe Lountza, eine Art Kassler. Dann ein Keramiktopf Moussaka, alles wirkt handgemacht und ist lecker.

Danach ist man eigentlich schon satt und glücklich, doch dann kommen erst die richtigen Highlights: die Dolmades sind dünn gerollt und so zart, wie wir sie noch nie gegessen haben, dazu herrlich aromatisch, großartig. Das Stifado setzte für mich noch eins drauf, zwar etwas ölig, aber eine Geschmacksexplosion von Zimt, wenn ich nicht irre. Davon beim nächsten Mal einen Hauptgang, bitte. Das konnte das ebenfalls sehr gute und reichhaltige Kleftiko nicht toppen. Die große Schale selbstgemachter Pommes mussten wir mit einem Rest Kleftiko einpacken lassen, es war einfach zu viel.

Dazu nette, unaufdringliche Wirtsleute, alles wirkt sehr familiär, günstige Getränke mit ordentlicher Auswahl z.B. Aperol, Strongbow, Tsangarides Weine. Meine Tochter war mit Fischstäbchen, frisch gemachtem Milchshake und warmen Apfelkuchen mit Eis glücklich. Vieles wird an einem großen Grill zubereitet.

Es gibt ein paar Katzen, wie überall auf Zypern, da muss man wirklich nicht in Panik verfallen, wie unser Nachbartisch. Zum Abschluss ein Schnaps aufs Haus und eine günstige Rechnung.

You will find Hideway just off the village square. Grilled food is cooked on charcoal outdoors & smells delicious. I rang the day before & was able to reserve a table. It was very quiet so we were able to chat freely in the open fronted restaurant. We ate from the set menu which was excellent value, 3 courses €14. The menu was typical Greek food. The Halloumi starter was plentiful & tasty as was the mixed kebabs. Unfortunately the moussaka was very dry. Basic food in a pleasant cosy atmosphere. Staff were very helpful & service didn’t take long. There is a ramp so pushchair & wheelchair friendly but it was a little steep...
